Hannes aan Huis returns – with new stories, open hearts, and a few beloved favourites
What happens when you open your front door to a familiar face – and they open their heart to you? That’s exactly what viewers can expect once again tonight on kykNET (DStv channel 144) when the 12th season of Hannes Aan Huis kicks off at 21:00.
With his trademark warmth, humour, and empathy, Hannes van Wyk once again welcomes a variety of guests across his threshold this season – from celebrities and artists to unsung heroes behind the scenes of South Africa’s culture and history. Some of the conversations are brand new, while others were so well-loved that they return by popular demand.
“I can’t thank our loyal viewers enough,” says Hannes. “It’s their support and feedback that have helped this show grow into what it is today.”
Highlights and favourites
The new season offers a delightful mix of brand-new interviews and a few fan favourites brought back by request. Every visit brings its own weight, but a few truly stand out:
- Johan Badenhorst, the adventurous spirit behind Voetspore, shares tales from the road.
- Dakar champion Giniel de Villiers gives insight into his journey to the top.
- A candid conversation with musical duo Francois and Elizabeth Fourie reveals the people behind the music.
- And then there are inspiring figures like Pepe Marais, a creative force in advertising, and Attie van Wyk of Big Concerts fame – the man who brought stars like Lady Gaga and Elton John to South Africa.
“We speak to people who’ve had a massive impact, but who may not always be on magazine covers – and that makes it all the more special.”
Surprises and trust
Sometimes, it’s the unexpected stories that leave the biggest impression – like the interview with Gigi the pole dancer.
“She held nothing back. What always stays with me is how people open their homes and their hearts – and how they trust me enough to talk about deep things.”
That trust, Hannes says, is one of the show’s greatest gifts.
“Every time someone entrusts me with their story, it touches me.”
Behind the scenes
One of the most touching compliments Hannes often hears after filming is: “I forgot the cameras were there.” That, he believes, is the secret to the show’s success – the ability to have real conversations without pretense.
A journey of growth – for Hannes too
It’s not just the guests who are in the spotlight. Over the years, Hannes has grown too – as a presenter and as a person.
“I believe you learn something with every interview. I do a lot of research, but I also know when to just listen. I watch every episode, even though I still hate seeing myself on TV – that’s how you grow.”
What sets Hannes aan Huis apart?
“There are a lot of wonderful shows on kykNET, but we don’t do dirty laundry,” he laughs. “We focus on honest, heartfelt conversations. Even if someone’s been interviewed before, I always try to find a different angle.”
A message of hope
What does Hannes hope viewers will take from this season?
“It’s important to know that there’s always hope. Many of the guests have been through unbelievable hardship – yet today, they stand strong. That gives me hope… and hopefully, the viewers too.”
Season 12 of Hannes Aan Huis airs Tuesday nights at 21:00 on kykNET (DStv channel 144). It’s also available on DStv Stream.
