10 reasons why kykNET’s Die Brug is must-see reality TV

kykNET’s new reality series, Die Brug – a local version of an international hit format – premieres tonight, 26 October, on DStv channel 144 at 20:00. In the premiere episode, viewers will meet the 12 strangers who decide to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. Each of the players have no idea what they’re in for, and viewers get a front-row seat to the journey as the players discover what’s in store.

Here are 10 reasons why you don’t want to miss Die Brug:

  • 1) The Players! The characters selected for the series range between the ages of 24 and 57, each with a story to tell and a personal bridge to cross. Cue the tissues because there won’t be a dry eye in the room as these stories unfold.
  • 2) Trust. Yes, the premise of the series is for the players to build a bridge in just 20 days with their bare hands. But the series is really about trust. Will the players build solid trusting relationships with each other, and will the decision of who walks over the bridge be based on friendships, or who they trust to make the right decision?
  • 3) Community. It’s beautiful to see how 12 strangers come together to build a micro community to achieve an almost impossible challenge, as a team.
  • 4) Twists and turns! What’s a reality show without some epic challenges to shake things up? Die Brug has plenty of these to keep the players on their feet and viewers at the edge of their seats. When that flare goes off, buckle up for a great bumpy ride.
  • 5) A leader. Episode one calls for a leader to be chosen. But how do a bunch of strangers choose a leader? And who will have the guts and nerve to step up for the job? With great power, comes great responsibility …

  • 6) Drama. Take a group of strangers and place them in a remote location where all they have, is each other. What’s bound to happen? Conflict! Clashing personalities, different work ethics and wide-ranging opinions … The building of the bridge is just a catalyst for what else is in store for viewers.
  • 7) Money makes the world go around. How will the temptation of R1 million affect the players and their moral code? Are they here to play a strategic game, or will the relationships built along the way impact their decisions?
  • 8) It’s proudly South African. The local version of this popular international format is proudly brought to viewers for the first time by kykNET, who made a significant investment in the show. Every aspect of this series has been carefully crafted and selected to give viewers a truly South African feel.
  • 9) An additional character. The Buffeljags Dam near Swellendam made for the perfect location and makes the series more than just a reality show, but a cinematic viewing experience. It also served as an additional character on the series. When the weather was good, the location was a friendly character and other times it was taunting, brooding, ominous or hostile.
  • 10) Spanning gaan oorloop [Tension will overflow]. What more do you need?

Die Brug is produced by Red Pepper Pictures. The series will be available on DStv Premium on kykNET (DStv Channel 144) from Thursday 26 October 2023 at 20:00 as well as live-streamed on DStv Stream and is available on DStv Catch Up after broadcast.
