Start the Year with Adventure as The Jungle Book Comes to Life at the Pieter Toerien Theatre, Montecasino

Kick off 2025 with VR Theatrical’s production of The Jungle Book, an exciting new stage adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s timeless novel, at the Pieter Toerien Theatre, Montecasino. Running from 24 January to 21 February, this family-friendly show, directed and adapted by Daniel Butcher-Geddes and featuring an original score by Wessel Odendaal, offers an ideal escape for audiences aged 4 and up.

Set in the wilds of the jungle, The Jungle Book follows Mowgli, a young boy raised by wolves, as he learns about life, friendship, and bravery. With guidance from Bagheera, the wise panther, and Baloo, the easygoing bear, Mowgli must ultimately face Shere Khan, the fierce tiger. Packed with humor, warmth, and exciting moments, this 60-minute production (no interval) brings Kipling’s classic tale to life, making it the perfect outing to start the year.

Meet the Cast

This talented cast takes on Kipling’s beloved characters with a fresh approach, each actor bringing multiple jungle roles to life. Noluthando Mathebula stars as the young and spirited Mowgli, while Virtuous Kandemiri embodies the cunning Kaa, the python with a twist of mystery. Thuto Gaasenwe portrays Bagheera, the protective panther, and Jonathan Raath commands the stage as Shere Khan, the Bengal tiger who sees Mowgli as a threat. Katlego Nche doubles as both the mischievous Monkey King and Akela, the dignified leader of the wolf pack, and Grant Towers completes the cast as Baloo, the carefree bear who brings humor and warmth as Mowgli’s mentor and friend. With Geddes’ direction and Odendaal’s musical compositions, each cast member brings out the heart and adventure of this cherished story.
