Daphne Kuhn proudly presents the autumn music line-up at Theatre on the Square a diverse programme of musical genres, highlighting the skills of some of
South Africa’s most celebrated musicians.
The Autumn line-up includes:
- 24th April – A Little Lunch Music is the title of a Mozart concert by singing sensation Yael Benjamin, accompanied on the piano by Michael Watt;
- 1st May – The magnificent Sunset Serenade Quintet will be back, presenting works by Handel, Dvorak Ravel, Newman, Jenkins and the Beatles! The quintet includes musicians Peta Ann Holdcroft (cello), Malane Hofmyer-Burger (flute), Rosemarie Kane (harp), Irene Tsoniff (violin) and Kate White (viola);
- 8th May – Enjoy an unusual afternoon with cellist, Dr Thokazani Mhlambi. Not only does he play the cello, sing and compose his own songs, but he uses his art to convey African stories and philosophies. He will be accompanied on the piano by Jill Richards;
- 15th May – Renowned musicians from the JPO will present a classical musical treat – The Charm Of Vienna celebrating classical luminaries. Don’t miss the awesome talents in concert of Miro Chakaryan (violin), Susan Mouton (cello) and Violeta Mijikovic (voice);
- 22nd May – Fresh from their success at the Wakkerstroom Festival, we proudly present the Perfect Blendship starring baritone, Douwe Bijkersma and mezzo soprano Lanie Coetzer. A memorable experience with a mix of classical and contemporary pieces accompanied by pianist Laeticia Orlandi and violinist Evert Van Niekerk;
- 29th May – Flute and piano concert with Isabel Bradley (flute) and John Warner (piano) will be performing a delightful Donizetti work, a favourite sonata by Kuhlau (who was the ‘Beethoven of the flute’) and a little ‘fru-fru’ by Gossec;
- 5th June – A special Saxophone Concert with well-known Saxophonist Phil Holder accompanied by musicians ;including Jonathan Birin;
- 12th June – And now for something completely different – Flutes Without Borders, featuring three SA flautists – Prof. Cobus Du Toit, Renee Nieuhoff and Khanyisile Mthetwa. Works will include those compositions by Zyman, Shocker, Piazzolla and Doppler;
- 19th June – Enjoy a vibrant lunchtime concert as Amanda Blankfeild-Koseff, the Sunset Blonde sings and plays guitar, with Evelyn Green accompanying on piano. The concert will take you on a musical adventure down memory lane, from musical theatre to folk and classical – and there’s something for everyone!;
- 26th June – leading South Africa pianist Malcolm Nay & violinist Zanta Hofmyer are sure to enthrall!;
- 2ND July – Pianist Sonja Van Zyl and baritone Dr Jean Du Plessis will bring together a programme of love songs.
