Popular Suidooster concert returns to the Artscape
The stars of the kykNET soap Suidooster will shine once again at this year’s Suidoosterfees, held at the Artscape Theatre Centre.
This marks the fourth year that the popular Suidooster Stormsterk Concert will be presented, taking place on Saturday, 3 May at 17:00.
According to the soap’s publicity manager, Wilmer Müller, tickets have sold “like hotcakes” every year.
“Last year, the concert sold out a few days before the performance, but many desperate Suidooster fans still showed up at the Artscape on the day, hoping to get last-minute tickets,” he says.
The main cast members performing in the concert include Natasha van der Merwe, Jawaahier Petersen, Irvine van der Merwe, Jill Levenberg, Eden Classens, Craig Adriaanse, Richard September, Simone Biscombe, and Dean Smith.
The rest of the Suidooster cast will also make surprise appearances, and as always, a few dramatic plot twists – yet to unfold on television – will be revealed during the show.
Müller says:
“This year’s concert also kicks off Suidooster’s tenth birthday celebrations, and it promises to get the audience on their feet once again with a lineup of hit songs.”
Müller adds:
“Soap favourites like Mymoena, Kaashifa, Wade, Bennie, Gary, Juicy Justin, Suzy, Bianca, and the cunning Nazeem won’t just deliver top-class entertainment—they’ll also tug at the audience’s heartstrings and have them roaring with laughter.”
“We’re especially looking forward to welcoming Alistair Izobell to the stage to perform the Suidooster theme song.”
According to Jana Hattingh, CEO of the festival, Suidooster and the Suidoosterfees have a long-standing relationship.
“We first partnered with the soap in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, when we co-hosted a drive-in theatre at Atlantic Studios, the home of Suidooster, in Montague Gardens.
“Since then, we’ve collaborated on numerous projects, and Suidooster is also a partner in the festival’s annual Talent Search competition.”
The concert’s musical direction is handled by Melissa van der Spuy. It’s produced in collaboration with The Stage Performing Arts Studio in Durbanville, who assist with choreography and stage management. Sponsors include kykNET, Tafelberg Furnishers, and Biggi Popcorn.
