Scenario Productions launches casting for thrilling new production — and a new generation of South African theatre stars
In a bold move that promises to shake up the local theatre scene, Scenario Productions has officially opened auditions for its flagship 2025 production: Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
This immersive, boundary-pushing musical thriller will take the stage at Die Centurion Teater from 23 October – 1 November 2025, bringing the macabre world of Fleet Street to life with haunting music, bold staging, and interactive elements, including a splash zone for daring audience members.
But this is more than just a casting call — it’s a call to action for the next generation of South African theatre professionals.

Who Are We Looking For?
The search is officially on for young professional performers with a passion for musical theatre — ACTORS who can sing, not singers who want to act, as Sondheim himself demanded.
- Sweeney Todd — Male-identifying, powerful presence, baritone
- Anthony Hope — Male-identifying, youthful, romantic tenor
- Ensemble & Featured Roles — All genders, strong actors, ensemble, featured solos, and understudies
