Young magicians dazzle at The College of Magic’s Magicana Junior Magic Championships
The College of Magic, Cape Town’s premiere institution for the magical arts, is thrilled to announce the upcoming Magicana Junior Magic Championships, a captivating event where young magicians will dazzle audiences with their extraordinary skills.
A spellbinding showcase of talented youth, the Championships take place on Saturday 28 September at the Homecoming Centre.
This enchanting competition brings together the best and brightest young performers, ready to showcase their mastery of magic in front of a live audience.
Chad Findlay, Creative Director at the College of Magic, says:
“We’re incredibly proud of the young talent that will be taking the stage at this year’s championships.”
“This event is the culmination of a series of preliminary contests and will be a wonderful opportunity for these aspiring magicians to showcase their hard work and passion for the art. It’s going to be a magical experience for participants and audiences alike.”
The championships consists of 2 exciting events:
The Close-up Magic Contest takes place right under your nose – literally!
In this category, contestants will perform magic with everyday objects, turning the mundane into the mysterious with nothing more than their hands, a deck of cards, and an audience within arm’s reach. The stakes are high in this category, where there’s no room for error, and every move is scrutinized by eagle-eyed spectators. Expect to see coins vanish, cards appear from thin air, and a whole lot of “How did they do that?” moments.
“Close-up Magic is the ultimate test of a magician’s skill,” says David Gore, Training Director at the College of Magic. “There’s an intimacy to it that you just don’t get with larger illusions – there’s no hiding behind smoke and mirrors here. Our young magicians have risen to the challenge, and I guarantee they’ll have the audience on the edge of their seats.”
Stage Magic Contest: The Big, The Bold, The Spectacular
If you’re in the mood for something more theatrical, then the Stage Magic contest is for you. Here, contestants will showcase their mastery of larger-than-life illusions, transporting audiences to a world where anything is possible. From levitation to making objects (and sometimes people) disappear, the young magicians will dazzle with their showmanship, creativity, and, of course, a few tricks up their sleeves.
“The Stage Magic contest is where our performers can really let their imaginations run wild,” Gore continues. “It’s not just about the tricks, it’s about the theatrics – the music, the costumes, the storytelling. These young magicians are not just performing; they’re creating a full-on experience that will leave the audience spellbound.”
As the only institution of its kind in the world, The College of Magic has been nurturing young magicians for over four decades, transforming aspiring illusionists into masters of the mystical arts. The Magicana Junior Magic Championships is a testament to this legacy, providing a platform for these young wizards to shine on stage and charm audiences with their boundless imagination.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan of magic or someone looking to experience the extraordinary, this event promises to be a night of wonder, laughter, and awe-inspiring performances. Tickets are limited, so be sure to secure your seat in the audience for what promises to be an unforgettable evening.
