DJ Mkiri drops a tune to Honour His Mother.

Throw in a mean beat, flow and talented muso… What do you get? A brand-new hit titled ‘On My Mama’ by DJ Mkiri, born Siphamandla Nhlakanipho Hlabisa.
The multifaceted 24-year-old who hails from Richards Bay, KZN is no stranger to the music industry. DJ Mkiri was introduced to the music scene as a Dj for one South Africa’s top hip hop artists.
“On My Mama’’ track showcases relatable lyrics with simple bars that will flip the hip-hop game to a whole new level. Being brought up by a single mother inspired DJ Mkiri to work hard and be able to provide a better life for the woman who put him first above anything. On the song he pays tribute to his mother.
Produced by Kreazoe, On My Mama is a jam for everyone who is at the bottom and working to create their own wealth and make it out of the dusty streets and unpleasant situations.
“This song means a lot to me, the message I intended to drive was that I know I can rise beyond my wildest dreams and succeed – I will shine. This song is actually dedicated to the person who brought me to this earth, who is also the reason why I am grinding hard – my mother,” says the DJ.
On My Mama features the SAMA nominated duo, Blaq Diamond who DJ Mkiri feels share the same story as his. He explains that Blaq Diamond also started from the bottom, so they can relate to what he is trying to tell with the song.
“As a DJ, I hardly get to release my own song. It so happened that we in studio, Kraezoe played a beat and I just went in. Sjava encouraged me to release the song, I was sceptical about it because I have never really release my own songs but I went ahead and recorded. I am so happy with the results,” explains Dj Mkiri.
This track follows DJ Mkiri’s first song debut, titled “Bhathu” in 2018. With two hip hop songs under his belt, DJ Mkiri is planning to continue releasing his own music to broaden his musical footprint.
