Joneaux captures the thrill of starting over on “Run Away”
South African indie-pop artist Joneaux releases his uplifting brand-new single Run Away today, Friday 12 June, delivering an energetic anthem packed with hope, movement, and emotional honesty.
Blending shimmering indie-pop textures with infectious hooks, Run Away captures the feel-good spirit of artists like Owl City, Phoenix and Grouplove, while firmly showcasing Joneaux’s own heartfelt storytelling style and vibrant personality.
As explained by Joneaux,
“‘Run Away’ is an indie pop track that is an upbeat, inspiring, feel-good song that I hope will get you moving, dancing and running.”
At its core, the song tells the story of someone overcoming a difficult past and finding the courage to escape towards a brighter future with the person they love.
“The song is about someone who has had a difficult past and unfortunate circumstances growing up however they are ready to make a big change and escape to a better and brighter future with someone they love,” says Joneaux. “It is based off of someone very close to me and I used it as inspiration to write this track.”
Written alongside his fiancé Michaela Vice and close friend Timothy Drew, the track was recorded in true independent spirit, with Drew helping record and mix the song from his bedroom studio.
“The DIY process behind this song made it even more special,” Joneaux explains. “It was made with people I genuinely love and trust, which gave the song a real sense of heart and honesty.”
The single was produced by independent South African artist and producer Ben Reid, alongside Devon Murray, whose guitar work and production contributions have become widely recognised through his collaborations with South African artist Ben Rodrigues.
“Both of them have been inspirations to me so having them produce a song with me was absolutely amazing!” says Joneaux.
