Katia De Vallier Drops New Single And Music Video
South African singer, songwriter and live performer Katia De Vallier has released her new single Nothing Should Stop You, accompanied by an evocative music video that brings the song’s deeply personal story to life. The single is available now on all major streaming platforms.
Written from a place of hard-won clarity, the song was born during one of the most uncertain periods of Katia’s life. Having spent years balancing a demanding corporate career alongside her passion for music – a passion she had set aside for too long – Katia found herself navigating retrenchment and the daunting prospect of starting over. It was while driving a familiar route during this period that four words on a billboard stopped her in her tracks: Nothing Should Stop You.
That moment became the seed of everything that followed: the decision to launch her own consultancy, the commitment to pursue original music on her own terms and ultimately, the song itself.
De Vallier says:
“Those four words felt like they jumped straight into my heart. For the first time, I truly believed I could pursue both my music and my own business – on my own terms. The feeling was so overwhelming, and so deeply right, that I immediately wanted to capture it in music and share it with others.”
Katia wrote both the lyrics and the melody for Nothing Should Stop You. The music was composed and produced by acclaimed South African producer Daniel Baron, best known to many from his time on Idols SA and hit single “Children of the Sun”. Mastering was handled by Tjaart van der Walt at Maple Mastering.
The collaboration with Baron, which began in October 2024, came about after Katia responded to an advertisement for the Hit Kitchen studios. It proved to be a turning point in her artistic life. This music relationship has grown and produced several songs.
De Vallier continues:
“Daniel has really revolutionised my own perception of myself as an artist. He helped me truly believe in myself and the music that I want to bring out into the world.”
The accompanying music video, directed by Matt Marinus, gives visual form to the song’s emotional journey and is built around a striking contrast between two worlds – and two versions of Katia herself.
The video opens with Katia driving along the same route she travelled during that pivotal period of her life. The car scenes represent the internal dialogue we all know: the doubts, fears and limiting beliefs that keep us from pursuing what we truly want. Studio scenes filmed in black speak to confinement and fear; outdoor scenes in a vivid orange dress represent freedom, possibility and the courage to step into the unknown.
A black scarf threads through the visual narrative as a symbol of the limiting beliefs that hold us back – echoing the lyric “break these chains that always held me back.” As the video builds, the scarf is released into the wind, marking the moment of letting go.
As the video ends, everything within has shifted. The journey is no longer defined by fear, but by hope, conviction and possibility.
“The harmony section wasn’t part of the original composition – it came to me while driving. To me, it represents a kind of prayer. Not tied to any particular faith, but a heartfelt wish for every listener to find purpose, fulfilment and the courage to pursue their own path.”
She continues.
