Gert-Johan Coetzee Unveils New Collection
Gert-Johan Coetzee along with tech giants Vodacom and Samsung have joined forces for an exclusive bespoke fashion, music, and tech collaboration, to celebrate Coetzee’s new Spring/Summer ‘22 collection. The showcase took place at Vodacom World, the home of digital innovation, on Friday, September 30th, and was an exemplary celebration of craftsmanship and creativity with Gert being a headliner alongside Lerato Kganyago and the soulful J’Something.
In his new collection offering, Coetzee used the rich symbolism behind the sunflower against the African sunset to emphasise the importance of always following the sun in pursuit of great horizons. Also dubbed ‘the happy flower’, it reminds us to seek out positivity and strength in all our endeavours and personal pursuits.
Gert’s translation of the sunflower in this collection relays memories of his early childhood of vast lands filled with bright yellows and greens against a canvas with brush strokes in hues of reds and blues, especially seen as the sun sets over the South African sky. The sunflower encapsulates everything Gert-Johan Coetzee stands for; happiness, unity, and constant inspiration to face the sun and to see the positive in everything around us.

Gert explains how he took inspiration for his collection from the sunflower and the strength from following the Sun. He has reworked his logo to include the image of two elephants that represent the strength and warmth. The collection of 42 dresses, are made of material he has stored away for over three years, waiting for the perfect time to create the collection.
