Natasha’s Debut Single: The Beginning Of An Exciting Music Career!
Meet Natasha van der Merwe, if you haven’t already. Natasha is best known for her role in the popular South African soapie, ‘Suidooster‘, and also a talented singer, dancer and actress who is marking her entry into the music industry with the release of her upcoming debut single, Hou My Vas. The single is set to be released in tandem with an official music video on February 10th, 2023 – just in time for Valentine’s Day. Listen here.
“When Suidooster came along and mentioned they were writing a storyline for ‘Suzie’ around singing (and a potential love interest), I thought, what better time to release my first single.”
It’s all about timing and for Natasha, there’s no time like the present. It’s real, it’s honest, truthful, and authentic.
Hou My Vas is a deceivingly upbeat track with an electronic cinematic pop feel, but upon closer inspection, the song delves into deeper themes of love and relationships. The song begs the heavy question: is love enough?
The lyrics follow a woman who is left wondering if the love she is receiving from her significant other is truly worth the weight in which he says he loves her. The accompanied music video is a powerful commentary on relationships and emphasizes that actions speaking louder than words.
Two bodies, on two chairs, with two pairs of grasping hands. The desperation in Natasha’s music video is strongly evident in her determined movements with her partner. Both clothed in white, the music video shows two people filled with longing for each other, with the weight of her crumbling reality. She wants him to show her that he loves her, instead of simply saying so. Two bodies, on two chairs, grasping at hope.
The release of Hou My Vas marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Natasha’s career, as she demonstrates her versatility as an artist and her ability to create catchy, heartfelt music that speaks to the soul. With emotive lyrics and a soulful, powerful voice, Natasha is poised to make a big impact in the music industry.
Ever since she can remember, Natasha has loved performing. Singing and dancing would be a standard part of her daily routine. The emotions and themes that she explores with her music are love, loss, and relationships, whether it’s friendship, family, or romance.
Her debut single isn’t necessarily a happy love song, as Natasha puts it, and adds,
“I’m hoping it tugs at a few heartstrings.” When discussing being in the entertainment industry, Natasha says, “they say this industry chooses you, you don’t choose it.”
Fans of Natasha’s acting and performing skills will not be disappointed by her musical debut, as Hou My Vas showcases her raw talent and passion for creating music that resonates with her audience.
