An unexpected twist shakes up Op My Eish!: Chantelle Smith arrives as the first wild card
In this week’s episode of Op My Eish!, viewers got to know a new face when Chantelle Smith unexpectedly appeared as the season’s first wild card. The wild card is traditionally someone outside the existing group of participants – a woman who suddenly shows up, whom the bachelor doesn’t know at all and of whom he has never seen a photo or video. This time, however, the surprise comes with an extra twist.
What makes Chantelle’s appearance special is the fact that she originally signed up for Brendan Peyper’s season but didn’t make it into the top 12. After two years of self-reflection and focusing on her own life, she now finds herself in a place where she is ready to open her heart again – without expectations, but with sincerity.
Chantelle Smith says:
“I am happy on my own and don’t feel incomplete without someone at my side. Yet Ruan’s story – and the fact that we are both from Alberton – kept haunting me. When the opportunity came my way again, I knew it was the right time.”
A cocktail party with a shock reveal
The episode was filmed at the Kilima Game Reserve, where the top 11 ladies arrived to prepare for the cocktail party where they would have the opportunity to get to know Ruan better. There are only 11 women left after Melissa Jonker had to withdraw for personal reasons.
During the cocktail party, JP, the wingman, informed the ladies about Melissa’s departure – and just when everyone thought the evening was going smoothly, he made the big announcement: Chantelle Smith is the wild card.
The reveal left Ruan visibly shocked. “It’s just getting harder,” he said, especially given the limited time he has with each lady. Yet the evening unfolded in a light and jovial atmosphere, with Ruan mingling with the women and forming valuable first impressions.
For Chantelle, the first night felt almost unreal.
“With all the emotions and adrenaline, it was like a dream,” she said. “I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly and welcoming the ladies were – it made me feel at ease right away. Although there were later rumours of discomfort because someone came in so early, no one ever addressed it directly or behaved disrespectfully towards me, and for that I am grateful.”
Boerewors rolls and a group date
The next day brought a playful challenge – a boerewors roll competition. The women who made the six best boeries could go on a group date with Ruan.
The winners were Chantelle Wilson, Cindy, Carmen, Caitlin, Charlene and Minette. During the group date, Ruan chose Carmen, Chantelle and Caitlin for some extra one-on-one time.
Although Chantelle Smith was aware that her arrival could potentially cause tension, she approached the experience with respect and confidence.
“I know who I am and what I stand for,” she said. “It was important for me to stay true to myself and go in with an open heart.”
With Chantelle’s arrival, Op My Eish! now has a new dynamic, and Ruan’s journey to love has been further complicated. Will this unexpected turn of events lead to a true connection, or test the existing bonds to the limit?
Op My Eish! airs on Thursdays at 20:00 exclusively on kykNET (DStv Channel 144), and will also be available on DStv Stream and Catch Up.
