From Die Toring to Gemoedsdrif: Adrian Steyn now also joins Skemergrond
Skemergrond is welcoming a new face – and it’s one kykNET viewers already know well. Adrian Steyn, currently seen as Ryan Peterson in Die Toring, is now also stepping into the world of Skemergrond on kykNET & kie as the mysterious Zander Conradie. He makes his first appearance on 27 May 2026.
For Adrian, this period has been one of the biggest blessings of his career:
“Although the two series are now airing simultaneously, I fortunately finished filming Die Toring about two months before starting on Skemergrond,” he explains. “Otherwise it would have been rough. I see this entire season of my life as nothing but a blessing. All glory to God for not only having work, but also getting the opportunity to tackle two very different characters shortly after one another.”
Each set comes with its own atmosphere, and Adrian enjoys noticing those nuances. On Die Toring, the wide variety of outdoor shoots – with new locations constantly bringing fresh energy to set – left a particular impression on him. Skemergrond, however, is a completely different world.
“Every production has its own uniqueness, but what I enjoy most are the people I work with,” he says.
It’s also not the first time Adrian has appeared in two series simultaneously. Viewers may remember him from his time on 7de Laan and Nikiwe, which were also filmed and broadcast at the same time. Even so, the experience remains special to him: “I never underestimate what’s possible,” he says. Viewers may also recognise Adrian from series such as Getroud met Rugby and Wyfie.
But who exactly is Zander Conradie? Adrian is keeping his cards close to his chest. “He’s a farmer,” he says with a smile, “and a farmer always makes a plan.” What has emerged, however, is that Zander is not your typical small-town character – he’s both a farmer and a lawyer, a combination Adrian describes as “quite interesting”. He sums up his new alter ego in three words: passionate, brave and full of integrity.
Opposite Zander stands Ryan Peterson in Die Toring – a character that, according to Adrian, required significantly more research.
“Ryan was more difficult to approach because he finds himself in a high-risk, high-reward environment that I had to familiarise myself with.”
Amid the hard work, there were also lighter moments – such as celebrating his 30th birthday on the set of Die Toring.
“Even though I worked the entire day, they made it incredibly special.”
For Adrian, the most important thing is that viewers enjoy the stories. “Enjoy the shows and remember… it’s just a story,” he says with a laugh. And if he could give viewers just one reason to tune in? “Entertainment at its best!”
Skemergrond is produced by Penguin Films and Die Toring by Penguin Films’ sister company, Paw Paw Films.
Skemergrond airs every Monday to Thursday at 19:30 on kykNET & kie (DStv Channel 145) and is also available on DStv Stream and Catch Up.
