Meet extraordinary spiritual leaders in kykNET’s new doccie series Herders
We live in uncertain times, and as more people search for answers, spiritual leaders become indispensable in the lives of believers. In kykNET’s new documentary series Herders, we follow the lives of various spiritual leaders who guide their flocks to the Lord in their own unique ways.
In eight episodes, Rian van Heerden and his team explore the lives of these remarkable shepherds, the environments they inhabit and the significant roles they play in the communities they serve.
“I have always wanted to make a programme about faith, and what better way to learn about people’s spiritual journeys than by talking to their spiritual leaders? The stories of the shepherds and the individuals in their flocks are simply incredible – not to mention the stunning visuals!” says Rian, producer of the series.
Herders explores themes such as inclusivity in the church, the evolution of the NG (Reformed Dutch) Church, churches in small towns and the lives of famous personalities and newsmakers who lead congregations.
Among those featured are Reverend Riaan de Villiers of the Reformed Dutch Groote Church in Cape Town, Pastor Johan van Eck of the West Rand Bikers Church, Pastor Heinz Winckler of LoveKey Church, Prophet Graeme Williams of Fire Torch Ministries and Reverend Farren Cloete of VGKSA Lambertsbaai.
“This series is very close to my heart. I feel privileged to have met these remarkable people from across the country. You can’t help but feel a special warmth during and after each episode – a feeling that there is so much more out there than we could ever imagine,” says Rian.
Herders is produced by Provoco, the company behind other notable series such as Laataand by Rian, Hougaard: Liefling van Loftus, Die Siener, and Bolhuis Beslis.
Herders premieres on 19 January 2025 at 20:00, exclusively on kykNET (DStv channel 144). The series will also be available on DStv Stream and Catch Up.
