Acclaimed writer Jaco Jacobs’ charming character Charlie Prins promises to steal hearts in kykNET Storiefilm
A kykNET Storiefilm written by the popular and internationally acclaimed Jaco Jacobs, recognised as the most successful children’s book writer in South Africa, is making its debut on Saturday, 2 September at 20:00 on kykNET (DStv channel 144) and promises to charm young and old. It will also be available on Catch Up and DStv Stream.
Die Fantastiese Verdwyning van Charlie Prins tells the story of Charlie and her mother, Ilse, who moves to a new town to stay with a university friend of Ilse’s. Charlie struggles to adapt and finds solace in her collection of socks and the old time classic Alice in Wonderland and believes that she can make herself dissapear and reappear like the Chesire Cat.
Two boys in her class, Jarryd and Ethan, must do a project on an Afrikaans boek and ask Charlie to help them. They become friends and all goes well till there is a post on Instagram that shows where Charlie and Ilse live now and before long their past starts to haunt them…
“Francois Nolte, the executive producer at Green Planet Productions that made the film, is in contact with Jaco on a regular basis,” says Réze Fox of Green Planet Productions. “Jaco is a couldron of stories and Die fantastiese verdwyning van Charlie Prins was one of the ideas that he came up with.”
Méla Swanepoel is Charlie, Dirk Jacobs is Ethan and Rico Immelman is Jarryd. Christel van den Bergh is Ilse, Charlie’s mother. Other well known cast members include Pierre Breytenbach, Mandi Baard, Reandi Grey, Zak Hendrikz, Christo Davids and Lizz Meiring. The actor and TV-presenter Francois Jacobs directed the film.
What makes Die Fantastiese Verdwyning van Charlie Prins a movie not to miss?
“There is a twist in the tail when it comes to one of the lead characters, but we don’t want to reveal too much. What we will say, is that this Storiefilm takes you back to your school days and that is something almost all of us can relate to,” says Réze. “Charlie, who is looking for her own identity, takes her all of her friends and family on this journey. It is perfect entertainment for a Saturday evening – from grandparents to the little ones.”
Die Fantastiese Verdwyning van Charlie Prins is on 2 September at 20:00 on kykNET, DStv channel 144 and will also be available on Catch Up and DStv Stream.
