The Big Stink
It’s a charming pastoral scene in Mpumalanga – until the wind changes. A small rural community says it’s being held hostage by an unbearable stench that makes outdoor activities miserable and impacts business. But residents say it’s about more than the smell: they claim damaged health, polluted water sources, and roads strewn with rotting waste. The alleged culprit: a plant that processes animal waste into pet food and fuel. What’s the human cost of turning waste into profit? Carte Blanche investigates.
