New age artist, Karma Luna goes International.
In December 2019, local South African recording artist Karma Luna took to the skies to broaden the horizons of her music career, flying to Europe to work with International Music Producer EGGSTA aka Eden Michelle, a South African born EDM producer living and performing throughout Europe and the U.S, in venues including the renowned 7 SEAS in Cyprus as well as SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas.
Taking big risks and putting her fire for music to the test, Karma Luna returned to South Africa with 2 new singles and some big plans for 2020. The working vacation of a lifetime reignited her passion for being in studio, which has inspired her new Edgy Alternative Pop sound.
South Africans can look forward to a sonic journey with each single portraying her evocative vocals as well as a fresh new image that takes risks and tests the water with her daring new content.
Her planned releases for 2020 draw inspiration from international artists such as Halsey and Billie Eilish.
Whilst in Cyprus, Luna worked with BBC and National Geographic photographer, Sebastian Rich. Although Rich is known for his highly emotive war photography, his exceptional eye for fashion portraits came alive in the exquisite images of Karma Luna. Being one of the coldest days in winter, the photo-shoot included a cold dip in the sea accompanied by unusually rough and choppy water (as seen in the images) from a storm the night prior.
“The shoot with Sebastian was incredibly intimidating. It challenged me in more ways than one – you view these models on the beach and it’s not as easy as it looks. Sebastian made me feel incredibly comfortable whilst still challenging me and bringing me out of my comfort zone. I’m proud of myself for putting on a brave face in the freezing water and going for it – the pictures came out beautifully.” – KL
Karma Luna was dressed by the young and ambitious South African female entrepreneur/designer JSL.
“I feel as though JSL’s pieces were absolutely made for me – the mesh material, hoods, and sexy edge made me fall in love with almost every piece.” – KL from the shoot in Kourion Beach, Cyprus.
Working in close collaboration, you can expect to see KL in a lot more JSL designs in the future.
“My experience with EGGSTA in studio was challenging and beautiful. Writing with her was the most soulful experience. She could feel exactly what music I yearned to create, which no producer has been able to do until now. I was challenged and allowed the space to be vulnerable. From the lyrics to the instrumentation and oriental influence in the sound, I truly believe we are creating something that is a true expression of myself and I look forward to not only creating more music that is an extension of me, but mainly to see how South Africa and the rest of the world receives it.” – KL
