Two contestants lose the chase for the Miss South Africa crown Nobuhle Langa and Lethaukuthula Maseko voted off Crown Chasers
In a thrilling twist in tonight’s penultimate episode of the hit S3 television series Crown Chasers, two contestants were voted off, ending their dreams of becoming the next Miss South Africa.
Nobuhle Langa and Lethaukuthula Maseko both left the competition at the end of the episode in which the top 13 finalists tested their resilience, endurance and mental strength in a celebration of health and wellness.
Winner of the episode was Mia le Roux (for the second week running) with guest judge, media personality Andile Ncube, joining the show’s resident judges Leandie du Randt and Lerato Kganyago.
The 2024 winner will be crowned at Sun International’s flagship venue, the SunBet Arena at Time Square, Pretoria on Saturday, August 10, in what promises to be a spectacular and entertainment-packed show that will, once again fittingly, take place during Women’s Month. Tickets available now through Ticketpros.
We spoke to Langa and Maseko after their elimination.
How was your Miss South Africa journey?
Maseko: It was a challenging yet rewarding experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone.
Langa: It is one of the highlights of my life, because it has changed my life and lives of the children that I take care of. Every day was a learning experience, where I challenged myself but also had fun. I felt so free, vulnerable and happy. For the first time I related so much to other women, and they to me because I realised when I spoke about my life and challenges, someone else felt the same. That was the beauty of it, you learn and grow together. I made lifelong friendships with the ladies I met from the Top 30.
What was the best/worst part of the journey?
Maseko: The best part was sharing my story and intentions with the nation. As someone from an underprivileged background, I’m grateful to have inspired others in similar circumstances. The worst was being away from my family for five weeks, and dealing with the high pressure of reality TV was tough.
Langa: The best thing was to rediscover who I am as an individual. I feel empowered and ready to empower more people, I know my strengths and my weaknesses, I am resilient, and I can achieve anything I set my mind to. The hardest part of the journey was being in a confined space and not being able to do the things that I usually do, so as going to gym at 5am every day, sitting outside and soaking in some sun and feeling free in terms of my movements. The lack of sleep was also tough.
Would you do it again?
Maseko: Yes, it’s always been my dream!
Langa: No. I lived every single day in the present moment and trusted that God guided me through every decision and intention. I lived out my purpose as a Miss South Africa 2024 Top 13 and would gladly see more girls enter to live out their purpose.
What did you learn about yourself?
Maseko: I discovered that I need to work on my photoshoot skills! (laughs)
Langa: I learned that I am resilient, fun and can dance my heart out. This journey forced me to tap into who I am and not to feel ashamed about who I am. People have always made me feel unseen because I am softly spoken, but I can still be a leader with my soft voice. I don’t need to change who I am as my presence on its own commands space because of how I touched the hearts of many.
How was participating in Crown Chasers?
Maseko: It was challenging and I would have liked to have done more community outreach activities.
Langa: I saw it as an opportunity to learn so much more about myself, challenge myself mentally, emotionally and physically. Every day was a new challenge but I grabbed every opportunity to show the world who I am, show them my heart and my intentions for entering for Miss South Africa.
What challenges did you face in the episode you were voted out on?
Maseko: I struggled with the mini challenge, which involved racing, as I don’t have a driver’s license yet.
Langa: I was not at all well when we were filming the episode, so it was difficult to for me to be at my best and give it my all.
What is your message to the remaining contestants?
Maseko: You’ve got this! Believe in yourselves and stay true to your intentions.
Langa: There can only be one Miss South Africa 2024, but there can be millions of ambassadors for South Africa. Your why for Miss South Africa should go beyond the crown and should be focused on how you truly want to make an impact in our country.
What’s next for you?
Maseko: Back to work and reality!
Langa: I will be completing my audit articles at EY and writing my final board exam to qualify as a Chartered Accountant. Using the Miss South Africa platform, I want to grow my non-profit company, Langelihle Youth Foundation and work towards partnering with Brand South Africa and the United Nations Populations Fund to showcase the work that we do to gain public attraction and more support from citizens, corporate, government and other NPCs.
Do you have a message for your supporters?
Maseko: Thank you for your love and support. It means the world to me!
Langa: I would like to thank my family for supporting me from the moment I told them about entering for Miss South Africa. Thank you to my partner who has been my rock and biggest cheerleader and encouraged me to enter. Thank you to my friends for supporting me and getting the word out there for people to vote for me and constantly showing me love. To everyone that has shown support for me via calls, emails, and messages on social media I am so grateful.
