The Luyanda Madope Trio Returns To Die Pienk Kerk

Following a series of sold-out performances at Die Pienk Kerk, acclaimed jazz pianist and composer Luyanda Madope, along with Mzwandile Kunene and Sipho SJ Malinga return to the iconic Melville venue on Saturday, 6 June, for another unforgettable evening of sophisticated contemporary jazz.

Known for performances that blend technical brilliance with deep emotional storytelling, The Luyanda Madope Trio has earned a loyal following among Johannesburg jazz audiences. Their previous appearances at Die Pienk Kerk drew enthusiastic responses and full houses, making this return engagement one of the venue’s most looked forward to shows.

The trio is led by acclaimed pianist, vocalist and composer Luyanda Madope, whose distinctive musical voice blends contemporary African jazz traditions with deeply personal storytelling. Joining him on stage is sought-after bassist Mzwandile Kunene on double bass, renowned for his rich tone and dynamic musicianship, while acclaimed drummer and percussionist Sipho “SJ” Malinga provides the rhythmic heartbeat of the ensemble.

Together, the three musicians create a compelling musical dialogue, seamlessly weaving intricate improvisation, soulful melodies and powerful emotional expression into a captivating live performance experience.

Set within the intimate candlelit atmosphere of Die Pienk Kerk, audiences can expect an evening of rich musical conversation, masterful improvisation and soul-stirring compositions performed by one of South Africa’s most compelling jazz ensembles.
