Claire Mawisa: “With many people unable to pay their rent due to either losing their jobs during this pandemic or having their salaries drastically reduced, once the lockdown is completely lifted, expect the number of evictions to rise dramatically.”

COVID-19: The Property Market in Distress

Already in freefall before the COVID-19 lockdown, the property market has been all but frozen by the temporary closing of the Deeds Office. The unintended consequences have been dire for some home owners and tenants: double rent payments, an inability to move on pre-agreed dates and logistical nightmares.  Carte Blanche investigates how home sales have been hindered by lockdown restrictions. What will it take to reboot this sector of the economy?

INTO THE WILD

Virtual Game Drives

Titanium Implants

Imagine having an acute type of bone cancer, so debilitating you’ll need your pelvis to be scraped and shaped to fit a new prosthesis. But there’s a real problem – off-the-shelf artificial implants for pelvic repair often don’t succeed. But to be mobile again, that’s the only choice you have – at least that used to be the case. Now, using innovative medical techniques, mechanical engineers, designers and orthopaedic surgeons can combine their skills to 3D-print your unique bone structure in medical titanium. Custom-built to fit individual patient needs, these titanium implants are changing the lives of transplant patients.
