South Africa, Get Ready to Bring the Chaos to the Regular Show Recording Booth
On 11 May, Cartoon Network Africa launched the long-awaited brand-new series Regular Show: The Lost Tapes. Now, fans across the country are being invited to jump straight into the madness themselves with a brand‑new dubbing competition, and things are about to get not‑so‑regular.
To celebrate the launch of Regular Show: The Lost Tapes, Cartoon Network Africa is sending a travelling dubbing booth to three locations in South Africa this May and June. Fans can step inside, choose one of four South African languages — isiZulu, Afrikaans, isiXhosa or Sesotho — and bring Rigby to life in a 60-second clip. If you’ve ever watched the show and thought, “I could totally do that voice”, this is your moment. And if you’ve ever wanted to bring your home language into the Regular Show universe … well, get ready, because it’s your turn!
The booth will pop up in three cities across the country on the following dates
- 29 – 31 May: Cresta Shopping Centre in Johannesburg
- 5 – 7 June: Mimosa Mall in Bloemfontein
- 12 – 14 June: The Pavilion Shopping Centre in Durban
The competition¹ is open to fans of all ages, and participants under 18 simply need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Four winners, one representing each language, will be selected to receive a one-hour recording session at EarCandy, a professional dubbing studio in Johannesburg, where they’ll re‑record their winning scene. Their clips will then be showcased on‑air and online across Cartoon Network Africa, giving fans the rare chance to see and hear themselves on South Africa’s Coolest Kids’ TV Channel².
For more than a decade, Regular Show has been a favourite in South African households, drawing an average of 558,000 daily viewers³ on Cartoon Network Africa and creating a fanbase that has kept the show’s chaos alive, from kids discovering the show for the first time to adults who grew up with Mordecai and Rigby’s unforgettable antics. This competition celebrates that fandom by giving viewers the chance to bring their own voice, their own humour and their own language into the world of the park. It’s fun, it’s unpredictable, it’s proudly South African, and it’s exactly the kind of madness Regular Show fans live for.
This celebration of South African languages is part of Cartoon Network Africa’s ongoing commitment to incorporating more local voices into its programming via the “CN Your Way” campaign. An initiative launched late last year with the dubbing of popular series into isiZulu like The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball and Teen Titans Go!
Watch Regular Show: The Lost Tapes weekdays at 17h20 on Cartoon Network Africa (DStv Channel 301), then start rehearsing for your chance to become a Cartoon Network star! (at least for a minute 😉). And for an extra dose of chaos, don’t miss the Regular Show: The Lost Tapes marathon on Saturday, 13 June and Sunday, 28 June at 08:45.
