Less than a week to go until Spoegwolf and Francois van Coke take over the Sunset Music Series

The countdown is officially on. In less than a week, fans will descend on the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden as two of South Africa’s most influential rock acts, Spoegwolf and Francois van Coke, headline the next Sunset Music Series concert on Sunday, 28 June.

Following a hugely successful start to the 2026 season, the Sunset Music Series is gearing up for what promises to be one of its most memorable events yet, bringing together two artists who have helped shape the soundtrack of modern Afrikaans music.

Known for their poetic storytelling, electrifying live performances, and fiercely loyal fanbase, Spoegwolf have become one of the country’s most celebrated alternative rock bands. Sharing the stage is the unmistakable Francois van Coke, whose legendary career has seen him evolve from punk rock icon to one of South Africa’s most beloved solo artists, delivering hit after hit with his trademark honesty and energy.

Together, they promise an afternoon packed with singalong favourites, unforgettable moments, and the kind of electric atmosphere that only live music under the open sky can create.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, the Sunset Music Series has become one of Johannesburg’s favourite live music experiences, combining world-class performances with relaxed picnic-style enjoyment in one of the city’s most beautiful outdoor venues.

Although no own drinks may be brought into the venue, a variety of bars and refreshments will be available on site.

With gates opening at 13:00 and performances running through to 17:00, fans are encouraged to arrive early and make the most of the full Sunset Music Series experience.

  • Own food and picnic baskets permitted (no cooler boxes or glass).
  • No Hard Cooler boxes or Glass is allowed.
  • Camp chairs, picnic blankets, and small umbrellas allowed (umbrellas to be set up at the back).
  • Small umbrellas are allowed but must be positioned at the back of the venue.
  • Gazebos are not allowed.
