South African Singer-Songwriter, Solomon John Releases New Single, Get Out of My Head
Durban-born, proudly South African singer-songwriter Solomon John, is back with his new single, Get Out of My Head. An ill-fated relationship led to the inspiration of the single –
John Solomon shares:
“I wanted to capture the frustration of a toxic relationship. Everybody can relate to a tough relationship where you had to leave even though you didn’t want to.” Produced alongside GRAAFF studios, the specific guitar skills provided a strong backbone for the track. “They really helped bring it to life.”
Originally hailing from the East Coast of Durban, Solomon’s musical journey was kick-started at a young age, thanks to his participation in the church choir and family influence.
“We used to have lots of family get-togethers when I was younger. Music was always a commonality. Growing up, music meant togetherness, and I think it’s fair to say that even now, different genres bring different people together.”
What started as only singing quickly moved into Solomon learning the guitar and then the bass. His live gig scene started as a musician in multiple cover bands, where they would play classics from the Beatles, Santana, and Bon Jovi. A job opportunity in Johannesburg had Solomon relocating in his early twenties. The change of scenery exposed Solomon to an expanded music scene, finding himself experimenting with genres like rock, alt, and punk.
Get Out of My Head is not his first offering. Back in 2022, he released his debut radio single, How Did We. This was then followed by a Reggae-inspired track, Hey Girl, and other subsequent releases such as Home and First Class Geek. 2025 was a year of experimentation within the alt genre, leading to the release of his single, Uzzi – a post-punk, alt-rock single.
Looking ahead to the near future, there is an album on the horizon. One can expect further genre-bending singles that are all about smooth shymes and creating music that you can vibe to.
