Speaking about her television hosting debut, Mmule Setati said:
“I’m incredibly excited to be hosting Simmer Down because it brings together some of the things I love most: food, music, storytelling and human connection. Both food and music have a unique way of bringing people together; they evoke memories, spark conversation and connect us to who we are and where we come from. What makes Simmer Down special is that we’re not only sharing delicious food and meaningful conversations, but we’re also paying homage to the incredible South African artists who have shaped our cultural landscape.”
Series Producer Beverly Moubane reflected on the journey of bringing the series to life:
“What began as an idea, fuelled by countless sleepless nights, unwavering determination and a willingness to evolve, has grown into the show audiences will soon experience. Together, Tshiamo Modisane and I have had the privilege of watching years of hard work, resilience and belief transform into something tangible and beautiful. Today, with immense pride, we present Simmer Down to viewers. It is a show made with heart, intention and an appreciation for the stories that connect us through food, music and conversation.”
Robyn Verweij – Acting SABC2 Channel Head remarks,
“Simmer Down perfectly reflects SABC2’s commitment to telling authentic South African stories that celebrate our diverse cultures and shared experiences. Through the universal languages of food and music, the series creates a space where viewers can connect with some of the country’s most loved artists in a deeply personal way. It is uplifting, entertaining and proudly South African.”
Whether it’s a beloved family recipe, a song that defines an era or a memory shared over a lovingly prepared meal, Simmer Down reminds audiences that the most meaningful stories are often told around the table.
