SABC1 Celebrates 50 Years Of June 16 With “The Source Of Youth Courage”
Commemorating 50 years since the Soweto Uprising, SABC1 proudly launches its Youth Month 2026 campaign, The Source of Youth Courage, under the rallying call #MzansiYouthUnstoppable. The campaign forms part of the channel’s broader positioning as “The Source of Mzansi” — celebrating the people, stories, sounds and voices that continue to shape South African culture.
Throughout the month of June, SABC 1 will celebrate South Africans who have embodied courage across generations, accompanied by special programming and on-the-ground activations — celebrating the courage to become the best version of yourself, choosing leadership through your vote, elevating your music through sound, standing up for your community, and creating business solutions that shape the future.
The Youth Month programming line-up includes:
Beats For My Peeps (Wednesdays, 18h00)

Beyond television, SABC 1 will also activate the campaign through key youth-focused cultural experiences across the country:
GradeTown Festival (11–16 June 2026)
GradeTown is a six-day youth and culture festival in Johannesburg, where SABC 1’s 1 Wave Stage will showcase the stars of tomorrow through live performances, creator content and audience engagement. Selected performances will subsequently be made available to audiences on SABC+.
Enoch Mathebula Foundation x London Institute of Skills Development (27 June 2026)
The Enock Mathebula Foundation x London Institute of Skills Development will take place in Polokwane. This youth empowerment initiative will bring together young people, educators, entrepreneurs and community leaders to promote skills development, leadership and pathways to employment and entrepreneurship.
Fifty years ago, young South Africans changed the course of history through courage, conviction and action. Today, that same spirit lives on in every young person who challenges injustice, creates opportunities, breaks barriers and dares to dream bigger.
Joining the campaign as Youth Month Ambassador is content creator, storyteller and cultural commentator Madala TK, whose authentic voice and connection with South Africa’s youth make him a natural fit for the initiative. Through a combination of television, radio, and digital content, Madala TK will amplify the campaign’s message of courage, self-belief, active citizenship and youth empowerment.
The Source of Youth Courage is not only about looking back 50 years and honouring The Class of ‘76. It empowers the next generation to innovate, lead, and write South Africa’s future. Answer the call and become a part of the next chapter.
Because the youth courage of 1976 lives on today.
