One Interview Can Change Everything
Netflix release teaser for the new biopic movie, Scoop, taking a look behind the scenes of the BBC Newsnight interview with Prince Andrew and Emily Maitlis releasing on Friday, April 5th, 2024.
Inspired by real events, Scoop is the inside account of the tenacious journalism that landed an earthshattering interview – Prince Andrew’s infamous BBC Newsnight appearance. From the tension of producer Sam McAlister’s high stakes negotiations with Buckingham Palace, all the way to Emily Maitlis’ jaw dropping, forensic showdown with the Prince, Scoop takes us inside the story, with the women who would stop at nothing to get it.
To get an interview this big, you have to be bold.
The movie will be a “behind-the-scenes account” of the famous interview that aired on BBC Newsnight on November 16th, 2019. Prince Andrew was interviewed by veteran journalist Emily Maitlis and addressed recent and growing allegations that connected him to Jeffrey Epstein.
Scoop takes a look at how the BBC scored the interview, which had profound effects on the future role of Prince Andrew within the Royal Family and the ongoing case surrounding convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein based on the account provided by producer Sam McAlister and her memoir Scoops: Behind The Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews.
Scoop is an upcoming British biographical drama film made for Netflix starring Gillian Anderson, Rufus Sewell, Billie Piper, and Keeley Hawes. Directed by Philip Martin, it is a dramatic retelling of the process of securing the 2019 BBC television interview of Prince Andrew by presenter and journalist Emily Maitlis and the production team at BBC Two news and current affairs programme Newsnight.
The film is an adaptation by Peter Moffat of former Newsnight editor Sam McAlister’s book Scoops: Behind The Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interview.
Scoop will be released on Netflix on 5 April 2024.
