The Annual Naledi Theatre Awards goes ON-LINE !

The 16th Annual Naledi Theatre Awards for Productions staged during 2019 will take place via Live Streaming on Sunday 13 September at 19.00 (SAT).

We held out for a few months hoping that the lock down on theatres would be lifted in time for us to stage the Awards in front of an audience” said CEO and Artistic Director of the Naledis, Dawn Lindberg “however, there are still so many restrictions in place that we soon realized this would be impossible to achieve.  It became clear that we would need to find an alternative way of presenting the awards this year. We have formed a partnership with Dan Stillerman of the Excel Academy, and he has been most supportive in guiding us through the intricacies of this “Strange, Strange world we now live in” (as Dave Mark’s Master Jack sang in the 70’s!)” said Lindberg.

There are three thousand “in the audience” Zoom places available and tickets are free to anyone who wishes to join us on 13 September.” said Dan Stillerman of the Exel Academy. “However, to reserve your “virtual ticket”, you need to register on our Naledi website. Everyone who registers will be given the option of an online course to up-skill their knowledge of Excel at a 75% reduction in price, and all winners will receive the on-line course in Excel absolutely free of charge.

During the Event, we will also have three links for viewers to make pledges or donations into the Naledi bank account.  All donations received or pledged will go towards the creation of two Naledi Bursaries for Tertiary Students of the Performing Arts” said Naledi Executive Director/Legal, Lihan Pretorius.  “One bursary will go to a “Triple Threat” student of Musical Theatre (ie a singer, dancer and actor/actress) and the 2nd bursary will go to a student in the technical fields of set, lighting and sound design, or stage and theatre management. Any tertiary student who would like to apply for one of these two bursaries can apply directly to Naledi or through their relevant institution and winners will be announced soon after the event.”

Register now to watch what we know will be a very exciting event.” says Chairperson, Kgomotso Christopher. “Support Theatre, the Arts and Naledi as well as being able to contribute towards two bursaries for Tertiary students already committed to a career in Theatre.  It’s free and open to everyone!

The Naledi Theatre Awards are also thrilled to announce that we have a new Patron for these Awards: Adcock Ingram OTC the “Sponsors of Brave” initiative,  have come on board to assist us in making these awards special for all our Brave performing arts practitioners.
