Natasha Joubert meets Cape Town bursary recipient
Reigning Miss South Africa Natasha Joubert was back in the Mother City this week visiting students at her alma mater, Boston City Campus, and meeting the Cape Town recipient of her educational advocacy campaign, the Natasha Joubert Collective.
Thanks to Joubert, 29-year-old Steenberg resident Shumeez Linnett is now studying for a certificate in financial planning.
Joubert launched a partnership last year with Boston City Campus which gave 16 South African learners, aged 18 and older, a one-year academic scholarship to study at Boston City Campus. These scholarships were for distance e-learning studies towards a full-time undergraduate qualification. The Study Buddy Fund also partnered with the Miss South Africa Organisation to fund another 15 students’ studies at Boston City Campus.
Currently working as a bookkeeper for a UK based company, Linnett was delighted to meet up with the reigning queen who she finds “inspiring“.
She told a delighted Joubert that this opportunity could be life changing for her:
“It means a lot as it will help me to study further and allow me to become a role model to the people in my community. I want to assist people when it comes to financial decisions and help them grow their wealth. Many people don’t know about saving for retirement and investment and I want to help them to understand both of those things and not only have a comfortable retirement but build wealth for themselves and others if they can.”
Joubert was delighted to meet Linnett:
“Shumeez is determined to make the most of this scholarship and is passionate about what she wants to do and achieve. I am confident that she will accomplish all that she sets out to.”
Boston City Campus, a nationwide private provider of quality higher education, was founded in 1991 and currently has 47 support centres, more than 20 000 registered students, over 25 qualifications and many short learning programmes for quick skills acquisitions from which to select.
Miss South Africa is presented by Weil Entertainment in association with Sun International. SABC3 is the official broadcast partner.
