Makoma Mohale Takes the Lead in Mzansi Magic’s Epic Drama, Queen Modjadji

…plus more cast members revealed

Twenty-seven-year-old Makoma Mohale has landed her first major role in a drama series and will star as the Rain Queen in the eagerly awaited, Queen Modjadji.

She takes on the role of Maselekwani (Queen Modjadji), the young Queen-in-waiting who brings about a golden age of peace and prosperity to the land. No stranger to the small screen, Makoma has appeared on various television shows, including Mzansi Magic’s The River. A graduate of the Performing Arts, her first performances were theatre based in plays such as Too Sweet Too Bad, Fright Alah and The Infidel.

Key new additions to the cast include:    

Mudi Mudau (Khadikhulu) – Maselekwani’s Rakhadi (aunt) and head teacher and adviser.

Putla Setlapelo ( Ramulodi) – Keeper of the secret and king’s keeper. Putla has appeared on many M-Net productions like The Wild and various other local productions.

Priscilla Raboroko (Young Raisibe) – The daughter of young Maselekwani’s minders, and Maselekwani’s childhood companion and trusted friend.

Aubrey Mmakola (Kgoshi Mampuru) – who was the king of the neighbouring Bapedi Kingdom. Aubrey is an actor, dialogue coach and director who has made his mark on the acting scene. He has been cast on show like M-Net’s dramas Snitch and Jacob’s Cross as well as on kykNET soapie Binnelanders.

Moses Raseleke (Mphabantshi) – The Royal healer, prophecy teller and spiritual leader.

Sipho Ndlovu (General Phaahla) – He was the cunning General of the Bapedi Kingdom. Best known for playing the character Sambulo on the hit Showmax show The Wife, Ndlovu has also featured on other Mzansi Magic hit shows, including The Queen and as Zembe on Isibaya.

Candy TsaMaNdebele (Muyahabo) – Award-winning musician popularly known to embrace her culture, traditional attires and singing in Khelovedu, Candy plays Muyahabo, one of Mambo Mugodo’s wives and stepmother to Maselekwani.

Previously announced cast include:

Ngelekanyo Ramulodi (Young Queen Modjadji) – Ngele made her first appearance on Mzansi Magic’s S’phiwo, and you might recognize her from Fatal Seduction and Noughts & Crosses on various other platforms. On the series she plays the young Modjadji, 14-year-old Maselegwani.

Masutang Rasekele (Dzugudini) – Masutang is a fresh new face on the screen and will play Dzugudini, the daughter of the Rain King and the mother of Queen Modjadji. Dzugudini is a crucial part in the Lovedu history as she is instrumental in saving the kingdom from a catastrophe of drought.

Helen Lebepe (Raisibe) – Helen, who has several acting roles under her belt, including one on Mzansi Magic’s Saints & Sinners (now on Showmax) will play the role of Raisibe. In the story, Raisibe , assists Modjadji to get a view into the real world of her people and grows to become her confidant.

Thabo Bopape (Mambo Mugodo) – Thabo is a Mzansi film director and producer who is also a familiar face on screen having appeared on numerous television series, feature films, commercials and stage shows. He plays the Supreme Mambo/King of the Kharanga Kingdom, who is obsessed with becoming the greatest rainmaker and is racing against time to fix his mistakes and restore the balance as required by his ancestors and end a severe drought.

Shudu Musida (Muthanoni Mulalo) – Former Miss SA Shudu Musida will be making her screen acting debut on the series, portraying the role of Muthanoni Mulalo as one of the king/queen’s wives from the VhaVenda Royal Family

Ndavi Nokeri (Muthanoni Khensani) – Ndavi is also a former Miss SA winner who was crowned in 2022 and represented SA in the Miss Universe Pageant during the same year. She also plays the role of Muthanoni Khensani another one of the king/queen’s wives from the VaTsonga Royal Family.

Queen Modjadji, premieres this July on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161).
