Young filmmakers set to receive LIMA awards

Young filmmakers set to be celebrated at Thato Molamu’s Leaders In Motion Academy (LIMA) screening and awards ceremony.

Acclaimed, international award-winning, MICT Seta-accredited film and television business academy, Leaders In Motion Academy (LIMA), founded by renowned media personality and social entrepreneur, Thato Molamu, is set to celebarate young filmmakers at the LIMA 16 Short Film Makers Project (SFMP) film screening and awards ceremony taking place this Thursday, 28 March 2024 at Ster-Kinekor in Sterland, Pretoria.

Launched last year with the theme “16 Days of Activism” the film training program ran from July – December and saw 40 young filmmakers (16 writers, 16 directors, 8 producers) take on the task of creating short films by using film to raise awareness around GBVF – a major societal issue regarded as the second pandemic; with this project, LIMA challenges civil society to participate in the masses.

Thato Molamu, expresses:

“The arts are a critical tool in ensuring that the message is understood and effective. The aim is to lobby through the voices of young people to tell 16 different stories from the eyes of 40 young filmmakers. We are extremely proud of the 2023 cohort of young filmmakers and encourage everyone to watch these short films.”

As the 16 SFMP campaign comes to a close, the film screening and award ceremony this Thursday will include beneficiary comments and testimonials from some of the 40 young filmmakers that benefitted from the job creation and up skilling, and also award creatives in the below categories:

  • Best Script
  • Best Director
  • Best Producer
  • Best Film
  • Best Lead Actor
  • Best Female Actor

The 16 SFMP was initiated in 2023 with the support of the Department of Sports Arts and Culture (Film Unit), and SABC Radio and TV with the aim to be an advocacy and edutainment for the theme 16 days of activism by using film as a platform to capture different aspects of topics GBVF and how they impact our societies.
