Oppiestoep starts this Friday: Ten years of stories on kykNET
The popular storytelling series Oppiestoep reaches a significant milestone with the launch of Season 10, kicking off this Friday, 27 February at 18:30 on kykNET (DStv channel 144).
In its tenth year, Oppiestoep remains true to the winning recipe that makes the program so popular: a relaxed get-together where stories are told honestly, humorously, and sometimes poignantly. Pietman Geldenhuys and Lyntjie Jaars are back at the helm as presenters, leading conversations with a variety of storytellers.
A special location for a milestone season
The tenth season was recorded in the school hall of Hoër Landbouskool Boland outside Paarl. For Lyntjie, the location was special:
“It was a highlight for me that we could record at Pieta’s high school. To catch up again, see old friends, and make new ones was heartwarming.”
Familiar faces and new voices
The series includes both well-known names and new voices, including:
- Riaan Cruywagen
- Mel die Storieverteller
- Traver Brikkels
- Hein Wagner
Pietman reveals that viewers can look forward to new anecdotes, but also a look back at the past decade.
“I am especially looking forward to the exciting new storytellers and the highlights of what has been told over the years. It was also a great privilege to see Riaan Cruywagen burst out laughing.”
Lyntjie adds that the tenth anniversary is a time of reflection:
“It is special to look back at the highlights over the 10 years, and especially to pay tribute to the legends who have already passed away.”
Music and Nostalgia
For the first time, the program is accompanied by the Oppiestoep Orchestra, under the leadership of Schalk Joubert. The music provides the perfect finishing touch to the nostalgic and cozy atmosphere for which the program is known.
In a fast-paced world, Oppiestoep offers a necessary breather. Pietman believes the program strikes a chord because it is universal:
“It is something everyone can relate to; it stirs nostalgia in everyone who watches. Few people tell each other stories these days because time has become so scarce.”
Lyntjie agrees:
“There is a proverb that says ‘life wants to be lived.’ Oppiestoep has the ability to transport you to that good place everyone looks forward to after a long day.”
Oppiestoep starts this Friday, 27 February at 18:30 on kykNET (DStv Channel 144). The program will also be available on DStv Stream and Catch Up.
