Ready, steady, sing! Oppi Noot puts tunes in your June

Oppi Noot strikes the first high notes on 5 June this year at 20:00 on kykNET (DStv channel 144). Behind this brand-new, fun music game show is an experienced crack team that guarantees top entertainment.

In Oppi Noot, singers compete against each other in a series of diverse and entertaining singing challenges. The producers are Stemmburg Television, responsible for popular shows like Noot vir Noot and Musiekroulette. Johan Stemmet and the Stemmburg TV production team are at the helm.

Oppi Noot is not a reality TV singing competition. Singers will earn points for their performance in the various games. The more songs a participant is able to sing, the better. Three singers will participate in each episode, and there is cash to be won in every show. The further you progress to the final round, the more money is at stake.

Three lucky viewers will be selected each week to participate as “lugvennote” (on-air partners) in the show. On-air partners win money depending on how well their singing partners fare.

Each programme starts with the evening’s singers each singing a verse of a song. The first three viewers who can correctly identify the songs are chosen as that episode’s on-air partners. And the best part is, you don’t even have to leave your living room.

“What can viewers expect? Fun, pleasure, lots of laughter, enjoyable singing together, and something completely different,” says Emo Adams, popular and beloved presenter of hit shows like Noot vir Noot and Maak My Famous, and now also of Oppi Noot. “I enjoyed recording Oppi noot in front of an audience because it felt like a live performance. There are no contestant podiums, and it’s not a suit-and-tie show. It was really a blast. You know you’re working on something very special when even the cameramen laugh and dance along. There was great camaraderie among the participants, which is unusual because they are supposed to compete against each other. It was lovely to see opponents who just couldn’t stop themselves from harmonising together.”

The singers are accompanied by an orchestra, led by Jaconell Mouton. Among the participants are everyone from professional singers to students, a project manager and a real estate agent. But they all have one thing in common: They want to show they can sing.

Emo says it’s an ideal show for families to enjoy together.

“You might not know the song, but someone older or younger in your family might. Everyone will want to join in. What I also really enjoyed about Oppi noot is that it’s not about the host but about the participants. It was great fun to do.”

Oppi Noot starts Wednesday 5 June at 20:00 on kykNET (DStv channel 144).
