Bou of breek: A unique new lifestyle show
Whether it’s giving an existing room a complete makeover or constructing an entirely new home, nothing is too much to ask for Johan and Zanelle Dorfling, owners of Country Home and Design in Jeffreys Bay.
In a new lifestyle show, Bou of Breek, this talented couple will showcase, over 13 episodes, how they breathe new life into existing spaces while staying within budget – from the Eastern Cape to Stellenbosch. In each episode, the Dorflings collaborate with their clients to transform everything from homes to businesses into breathtaking places.
The producer of the series is actor Reynardt Hugo, whose production company, StraatKatMedia, was also responsible for the popular series Net mens.
“It’s amazing to reflect on the journey I’ve taken and the birth of StraatKatMedia – from the idea for Net mens, which I had four years ago, to Bou of breek, the first South African home renovation and construction show of its kind,” says Reynardt. “In Bou of breek, we don’t just paint walls. We build homes from the ground up and give existing spaces a smashing new look. I am excited and incredibly proud of everyone who has worked so hard on this project. It’s not just about physical restoration but also about healing the soul. This is the story of a wonderful family – the Dorflings and their two children – and the age-old question: Build or break? The choice is yours.”
Johan, better known as Pikkie, and Zanelle have been married for 20 years and are almost polar opposites. Johan is an introvert; Zanelle is an extrovert. Johan takes his time making decisions; Zanelle acts before she thinks. Johan is precise; Zanelle easily colors outside the lines. Yet, each brings their own unique experience, skills and artistry to every project they take on.
Johan says:
“Our experience has been built over years of trial and error, learning from mistakes, getting lucky sometimes, and taking a few hits along the way with all the ups and downs that come with a project.”
Zanelle says:
“For most people, building or renovating is a nightmare. For us, it’s an opportunity to create something. The goal is always to complete any project better than a client could have done themselves, but at a lower cost than expected or for less than it would have cost them alone. Nothing is more fulfilling than using our passion and experience to make a positive difference in someone’s life.”
Some of the projects featured in Bou of Breek include the restoration of a home in St. Francis Bay for a family that traded Johannesburg for the Eastern Cape, a barbershop in Stellenbosch, and a house on the Gamtoos River that is being transformed into guest accommodation.
Bou of Breek starts on Sunday 6 April at 17:30 on kykNET (DStv channel 144) and will also be available on DStv Stream and Catch Up.
