Lettie and Henry promise to love and cherish one another forever in Diepe Waters
A radiant bride in turquoise. A groom smartly dressed in a navy-blue suit. Floral arrangements in hues of soft blue, cream and pale green. Long wooden tables, champagne glasses and candles. What more could a bridal couple ask for?
With Lettie (Stephanie Baartman) and Henry’s (Stiaan Bruwer) wedding, which aired on 20 March, everything went smoothly and according to plan for the two Diepe Waters lovebirds. According to the producers, Penguin Films, the planning for the wedding was done well in advance of the filming. The scenes were shot in the front garden of the house used as the home of Gys in the series. The setting up of the tent, all the decor and floral arrangements, the filming of the scenes, and the breakdown and packing up of everything afterward, all happened within just twelve hours.
“It’s always fun to play a bride,” says Stephanie. “Especially because you don’t have the stress of a real bride. I enjoyed all the special attention paid to my dress and makeup, and it was great to have so many of the other cast members with me on set that day. Viewers may not know this, but if I’m not in specific scenes with certain actors, I hardly ever see them. So, it felt like a small reunion.”
Stephanie says it didn’t necessarily take longer than usual to get ready for the scenes.
“Our hair and makeup team are so professional that they know exactly what to do when you land in that chair in front of them.”
Stiaan agrees:
“Everyone was so well prepared for these scenes. So, it didn’t take too long. You got your makeup and clothes, rehearsed the scene once or twice, and off you went. Magic!”
Stephanie and Stiaan’s advice to couples about to get married is practical and straightforward.
Stiaan says:
“Be patient and realistic. A few little things may go wrong, but it’s all okay. Remember why you’re there.
Stephanie says:
“If you have enough money, get a wedding planner. If not, get married in front of the magistrate and take the money and run!”
Stiaan about relationships and love, says:
“A relationship isn’t always 50/50. Sometimes it’s 30/70, and other times it’s 60/40. You have to help each other. It won’t always be perfect, but if there’s someone by your side helping you, it makes all the difference in the world.”
