Keely Crocker turns vulnerability into strength on Things Could Be Different
South African singer-songwriter Keely Crocker returns with her most emotionally charged release to date, unveiling her brand-new single, Things could be different, a stunning pop ballad that captures the ache of heartbreak, healing, and letting go.
Tender yet powerful, Things could be different marks a significant milestone in Keely’s artistic journey. The track is her first co-written release, created alongside the talented Mila Smith and brought to life through the production of Aidin Nortje. Written in just a single day, the song taps into a deeply personal space, revealing a level of honesty and vulnerability that resonates long after the final note.
“This was my first time co-writing a song I’ll be releasing as an artist,” Keely shares. “We wrote it in a day, and it ended up taking me into some very honest, emotional places I didn’t expect to revisit. Building the song became a real moment of release for me and a way of finally letting go of someone who had hurt and mistreated me in that chapter of my life. It holds a piece of something I didn’t realise I was still carrying.”
With its soaring melodies, heartfelt lyricism, and stripped-back emotional core, Things could be different stands as a powerful testament to Keely’s ability to transform personal pain into something universally relatable. It’s a song that invites listeners into a shared emotional space and one where reflection, healing, and connection take centre stage.

“I hope that when people hear it, it meets them wherever they are,” she adds, “and that they can connect to it in their own way. Maybe even find a form of expression through it too.”
Originally from Durban and now based in Cape Town, Keely Crocker has been drawn to songwriting for as long as she can remember, instinctively crafting melodies and stories that now define her genre-blending sound. After studying musical theatre at LAMTA for four years, she went on to star in the South African premiere of Dear Evan Hansen. However, her passion for personal storytelling ultimately led her to step away from theatre and pursue her path as a solo artist.
Whether performing in intimate spaces or commanding larger stages, Keely brings a rare authenticity to her music and one rooted in lived experience and a genuine desire to connect. With Things could be different, she not only showcases her vocal and songwriting prowess but also solidifies her place as one of South Africa’s most compelling emerging voices in pop.
At its core, Keely’s mission is simple: to share her stories with the world and create music that finds a home in the lives of others, just as the songs that shaped her once did.
