True Karoo. True Jazz: “Greet & Meet” Programme Invites Visitors to Experience the Soul of the Karoo
When visitors arrive in Prince Albert during the Journey to Jazz Festival, they quickly discover that music is only part of the story.
At the heart of the festival lies the Greet & Meet Programme – a series of daytime encounters, walks, conversations, performances and experiences designed to bring visitors and locals together in the spirit of the town’s beloved motto: “Groet is ‘n Moet” – to greet is a must.
In Prince Albert, greeting is more than good manners. It is a philosophy of community.
The Journey to Jazz Greet & Meet Programme builds on that ethos, creating spaces where artists, residents and festivalgoers can connect through shared experiences – from heritage walks and art-making to storytelling, yoga sessions, jazz conversations and sunset gatherings in the Karoo landscape.
A Living Hub in the Heart of Noordeinde
The programme this year, centres around the PACT Community Centre in Noordeinde, which becomes a vibrant daytime hub during the festival. Rather than closing its doors after morning masterclasses, the centre transforms into a gathering place where creativity, learning and conversation unfold throughout the day.
Visitors can expect:
- Masterclasses with festival artists each morning
- Children’s artmaking and recycling fashion installations, inspired by the Outta Lappies tradition
- Craft and food stalls showcasing local entrepreneurs from Prince Albert’s North End
- Poetry readings, storytelling and impromptu musical moments
- Vinyl listening sessions and jam culture led by DJ Bob
Stretch tents, bean bags and shaded spaces invite festivalgoers to mingle and to linger – creating a relaxed atmosphere where conversations flow easily between locals and visitors.
Speaking of ‘tents’ to extend the accommodation options this year, there will be a camping offering located on the high school fields – within easy walking distance of all the shows and restaurants. Booking can also be done on Quicket.
Discovering the Town Through Its People
Beyond the centre, the programme encourages guests to explore Prince Albert through curated experiences led by local knowledge holders.
These include:
- Guided heritage walks exploring the town’s layered histories
- Stoep Stories, documenting the memories of residents affected by forced removals
- Riel dance showcases celebrating the traditions of the Karoo
- Gallery visits and artist-led workshops
- Conservation walks with Renu Karoo founder Sue Dean
- Garden, food and coffee experiences with local experts
Visitors can also explore the town through cycling routes, walking tours and informal encounters with local businesses – from salons, nail technicians and micro-enterprises to artisan producers.

According to the organisers, the J2J Greet & Meet Programme reflects the deeper philosophy of Journey to Jazz.
