Jimmy Nevis releases powerful new single in solidarity with the fight against Gender-Based Violence

South African singer, songwriter and producer Jimmy Nevis returns with his powerful new single PREY, releasing today, 26 March 2026, accompanied by a striking music video premiering on YouTube tomorrow – Friday, 27 March.

Written in solidarity with the ongoing fight against gender-based violence (GBV) in South Africa, PREY aims to amplify the voices of women who continue to speak out against injustice. Blending Jimmy’s signature emotional songwriting with an atmospheric alternative-pop sound, the song confronts the harsh realities of violence and the culture of silence that often surrounds it.

The track was inspired by nationwide protests led by women’s rights organisation Women For Change and the urgent conversations taking place across the country around gender-based violence. With PREY, Jimmy uses his platform to contribute to this critical moment of reflection and awareness, highlighting music’s power to spark dialogue and drive change.

Nevis says:

“PREY is about recognising a reality that too many women face every day. As artists we have a responsibility to reflect the times we live in. This song is my way of standing in solidarity and reminding people that the conversation around gender-based violence cannot fade.”

The single will be accompanied by a compelling music video premiering on YouTube on 27 March, visually inspired by protest movements across South Africa. The video features a diverse group of women dressed in black lying across a stark, symbolic space, echoing the haunting stillness of silent protest. As Nevis performs among them, the imagery becomes a tribute to those affected by gender-based violence, transforming the scene into a moment of remembrance, resistance and collective solidarity.

PREY will also make its first live public performance when Jimmy Nevis takes to the stage as a headlining performer at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival 2026 on 28 March, marking a powerful moment for the song just days after its release.

Through this deeply moving release, Nevis once again demonstrates his ability to blend powerful storytelling with contemporary sound, using music as both expression and advocacy.
