Following a successful stint on The Voice South Africa and a collaboration with the acclaimed producer Mark Beling, Dylan’s new release is set to be a standout addition to your playlist. Join us as we explore his musical evolution, his transition to a solo career, and the inspiration behind Dance A Little More…
Dylan, you’ve been involved in a variety of bands over the years. How has this diverse experience shaped your approach to your solo career?
Playing in various bands and styles of music has broadened my abilities in songwriting, vocal range, and audience engagement for any occasion.
Your new single ‘Dance A Little More’ marks a shift to Modern Country with a fresh twist. Can you tell us more about what inspired this change in direction and how it reflects your personal growth as an artist?
I want to create music that is heartfelt and authentic, with a strong narrative. Music that is genuine and not overproduced, something I would enjoy listening to myself. By doing this, the audience will see my authenticity and passion for music. Being a musician is about growth, and each performance needs to surpass the previous one.
Working with Mark Beling, known for his success with Mean Mr Mustard, must have been an exciting collaboration. How did his involvement influence the production of ‘Dance A Little More’, and what was it like working with him on this track?
Mark is an incredible person. Musically, he’s a mastermind. His extensive knowledge and expertise in music performance and production had a significant positive impact on the success of the song. Working with Mark is incredible, because he brings out the best in you, and the song always comes first.
The single is described as “perfect for brightening up your day and keeping you dancing”! We agree, it is fabulous… what was your vision for the song’s vibe, and how did you achieve that energetic, fun feel in the track?
The vision was to create an upbeat, feel-good song that gets people up, dancing, and singing. To achieve this, we aimed to write an English version of an Afrikaans ‘sokkie’ hit.
Reflecting on your experience on The Voice South Africa, how did that experience influence your musical style and career trajectory?
Being on The Voice was a fantastic experience, and I’m so grateful to have been part of it. I just wish I had won! The show has opened many opportunities for me and continues to do so.
Your musical journey has seen you perform in a range of genres. How have these different influences, from Hard Rock tributes to Modern Country, integrated into your current sound?
Having a broad range of musical knowledge is incredibly helpful. Each song has its own emotion, and it’s important to bring the song to life through an understanding of different genres and styles.
With Dance A Little More out from 26 July, what are your plans for promoting the single and connecting with your audience? Any upcoming performances or collaborations we should look out for?
I am thrilled about the release of ‘Dance A Little More’ and can’t wait for people to hear it. We are promoting the song on social media, streaming platforms, and as many radio stations as possible, hoping to get onto the charts and build on what is already a fantastic fan base. The band and I are rehearsing for the new show, ready to hit the road and give the audience an unforgettable performance and introduce the new songs.
If you could choose one song from your past work that you feel represents your evolution as an artist, what would it be and why?
In a previous band, we wrote a song called ‘Larger Than Life.’ It was a rock song, but for me, it represented a step up from my previous work and showed maturity and experience in my writing.
What has been the most surprising or rewarding part of transitioning from band member to solo artist?
The freedom to express yourself as you wish and to direct your own future and vision of what your career and image should portray.
Outside of your music career, what are some of your personal interests or hobbies that might surprise your fans?
I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids, motorbike riding, playing golf, and padel. I’m very sociable and love spending time with friends and family.
Dylan Tori’s journey from band performer to solo artist is nothing short of inspiring, and his new single, Dance A Little More is a testament to his growth and versatility.
