Saturday the 2nd of February’s cold and windy weather didn’t stop these contestants from showing up for the SA Idols season 15 auditions.
“I’ve always loved music, singing is my talent. I am here with my mother and she has always supported my passion.” Thando Kula was first in line. She is a 16 years old and is auditioning with Tamia’s Give Me You.
“I gig at charity events and local places in Bloem. Whatever it is that I want in life can only be achieved by me.” Gift Ntsetsi was second in line and will be auditioning with (Something Inside) So Strong by Labi Siffre. She is 23 years old.
“I don’t want to be boxed or stereotyped, I’m a musician and a law student and I am passionate about a lot, I’m a multi-talented being. What inspires me to sing is the situations I see around me, the problems we are affected with need artists to use their platforms to tell these stories about our continent.” Teddy Simanga will audition with Fire On The Mountain by Asa Agua.
“If you fail once it doesn’t mean give up, get up, have passion and desire for it, try again. Since I was 15 years old I’ve been performing. I was in a group in my home town, Hartswater.” Shadrack Sebolai is 30 years old, he is a police officer and will be singing Medicine by Kelly Clarkson.
Nokuthula Moni is 29 years old and she will be auditioning with Naima kays, Thando. She currently works in a government department and it is her first time auditioning. “I waited to complete my BTech in HR before pursuing my dream to sing, singing calms me.”
Dumisa Rankati is 17 years old and is auditioning for the first time. He will be singing Ngikuthandile by Vusi Nova. “Singing relieves my soul. If music doesn’t work out I want to pursue acting.”
“I love the creative arts. I’m a singer and have been singing ever since I could remember. If you are passionate about something go for it regardless.” Burton Majiek is 25 years and will be auditioning with On My Mind By JorJa Smith.
Naledi Mohapi is 24 years old. He is auditioning for the first time. “Music is my life.”
Sam Akach is 26 years old. “Music has the power to change the world, hopefully I can share my music.” Sam will be singing John Legend’s Ordinary People.
Marima Fick is 29 years old and will be singing Simply The Best. She is currently a photographer. She sang in the school choir and loves Karaoke. “The last time I auditioned was 10 years ago. I’m turning 30 and this is on my bucket list.”
“Music inspires me and I want to inspire the young ones. Music is wisdom and freedom, it is therapy.” Mpho Maine is 23 years old and this is his second time auditioning. He will be performing Rising For A Fall by Bugle.
“Being an orphan, my goal is to inspire and motivate other orphans around South Africa,” says Lesotho-born Lehlohonolo Mafethe, who arrived at 5AM and is attending his first Idols SA auditions.
