Music group ONS releases second single ‘Lag’

The dynamic music duo, ONS, consisting of Marco van Deventer and Ruvé Erasmus, has excitedly released their second single, Lag. This cheerful track follows their successful debut single, Daai Liedjie, which was released earlier this year.

Marco explains the inspiration behind Lag as follows:

“A few years ago, I heard a saying: ‘Laughter is the shortest distance between people,’ and I absolutely fell in love with it. That was when I was still a student. The song is really about how I don’t need money or status to impress a girl. I just need to make her laugh. In the same way, ironically enough, contrary to what guys think, a girl also wants a guy who can make her laugh. It’s one of the strongest tools a person can use at first sight.”

Marco wrote the song during the lockdown period, adding:

Lag is one of the first songs we wrote as a group. It’s also the song we played during our meeting with Coleske, just before we got signed. The song holds a lot of meaning for us and reminds us of how much fun we always have laughing together.”

ONS hopes that Lag will capture the public’s hearts and become a part of their daily playlists.

“It’s a nice light song that you can dance to, sing along with, or even just play in the background at your braai!” says Marco. “It has a contagious energy that makes you want to sing and dance along. The chorus is so catchy that it easily gets stuck in your head, and before you know it, you’re singing ‘La-la la’ all the way through the stores!”

The duo hopes that listeners will escape reality when they listen to Lag.

“We want the listeners to forget all their worries for just a moment and just listen to this feel-good song. We promise, one listen and you’ll be in a better mood immediately!” says Marco.

ONS has big dreams, but they approach everything step by step. One of their plans for the year is to release an EP with more exciting songs.

With the support of Buffelsfontein Brandy and Atlas Media, ONS also filmed a music video for Lag. Marco explains the concept behind the video:

“The music video ties in beautifully with the theme of Lag, that you don’t need money to impress a girl, as long as you make her laugh. The video shows how two young people meet and instantly get
along because they make each other laugh. They follow each other around Pretoria on dates that cost nothing but are full of laughter!”

The music video was filmed at various locations, including a party scene at a Puzzles restaurant, a pool scene, a farm scene, a garage scene at someone in the team’s house, and ends at the Voortrekker Monument.

“The music video is unique because it’s full of laughter and good times,” says Marco.

Lag is now available on all major streaming platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and Deezer. Get it here.
