Dodo Nyoka releases new single ‘As Ek Opstaan’
Dodo Nyoka is no stranger to the Afrikaans music industry. In 2022, he emerged as the runner-up in the second season of Die Kontrak, and his debut single, Foto’s, has garnered over four million views on YouTube.
In 2023, he treated his fans to two tracks – Frikkie vir ’n Rukkie and Country Girl van Bloem. Now, he’s back with a brand-new single from his pen, titled As Ek Opstaan.
Dodo said about this mix of rock, pop, and alternative sounds:
“The song is actually a letter written for my future wife for when I am dead, but it is also a conversation between me and God.”
According to Dodo, the inspiration behind the song is God.
“The story is between me and God, I didn’t want to wait for my future wife, so God and I actually had an argument, and I fell a few times. But it’s a promise I make to God that I will wait for the one.”
“They say you will know when it’s the one, and I think the ‘knowing’ is that small voice from God,” Dodo said.
Dodo says he chose this song because he recently gave his life to the Lord.
“The Bible says we are God’s bride. So when we choose ourselves over God, we are selfish. So this song is my promise to God to choose Him above all.”
“I feel every man should play this for his wife or future wife. If you want to tell your wife how much you love her without using words, this song is for you.”
Dodo is also releasing a beautiful music video that complements the song’s lyrics.
“If you watch the music video, you’ll see how my mind and heart work. I share my heart with the viewers,” Dodo said.
Dodo says the highlight of his career so far is how people have received his song Country Girl van Bloem.
“It’s so wonderful for me to see how this song has made people happy. I always say I am a sunflower and the Lord is the sun. Without the sun (the Lord), the sunflower dies. And that’s what I want to be – sharing that warmth and light that the Lord gives me with others,” Dodo concluded.
