Op My Eish!: Two kisses, stronger connections and a quiet farewell
Episode eight of Op My Eish! showed just how quickly things can change when connections begin to deepen – and how difficult it becomes when someone has to say goodbye.
The episode kicked off with an adventurous 4×4 date. Ruan invited Bejanke, Minette and Saartjie to hit the road with him. With Ruan behind the wheel, each woman had the opportunity for individual conversations.
Saartjie was first, and their discussion quickly turned personal when Ruan shared more about his family. To his surprise, Saartjie revealed that she is also one of a set of twins. Ruan was clearly excited about the similarity and saw it as something special.
Minette was next, and Ruan asked her more about her career. With Bejanke, the conversation turned to their children – and both of their eyes lit up as they spoke about them.
Later, the group gathered at a table under a tree for lunch. Amid much laughter, the ladies wrote down on napkins what they considered to be their red and green flags in a relationship. Ruan then had to guess which flags belonged to which woman. The ladies also shared their opinions on what they thought Ruan’s green and red flags were. It was a light-hearted but honest and insightful game.
After lunch, there was romance.
Ruan asked Minette on a one-on-one date. In a scene that felt straight out of a romantic movie, their conversation confirmed that something special was growing between them.
Ruan told her:
“There is definitely a connection from my side, and it’s funny because we’ve actually spoken very little.”
Later, the two lay on a blanket looking up at the moon – and there, Minette received her first kiss of the journey. Later, Ruan said:
“We lived in the moment, and for once in my life, I think I wished time would stand still.”
The next morning at breakfast, JP tried to get details about what had happened between Minette and Ruan. She didn’t reveal much, but her smile said it all.
Meanwhile, before the next group date began, Ruan took Chantelle aside for a difficult private conversation. He told her he was experiencing stronger connections with other women and that he would have to send her home.
While Charlene, Hermi, Cindy-Lee and Jenine headed off on a stylish boat cruise with Ruan – filled with games, music and dancing – Chantelle quietly and gracefully concluded her journey.
She described her time on Op My Eish! as an incredible experience:
“I learned so much about myself and grew on so many levels. Even though I didn’t find love, I got to know myself better and, in a way, you could say, I found myself.”
Being the first wild card of the season wasn’t easy for her:
“When I walked in as a wild card, it was obviously a bit awkward at first, but the ladies were very friendly and made me feel welcome. Chemistry is a funny thing – you don’t click with everyone,” she said.
She’s made peace with Ruan’s decision:
“Honestly, I was okay. It was clear that there were stronger connections, and I respect that. There are no hard feelings. Of course, you always hope for more time, but I wasn’t broken by it. My heart was calm.”
Back on the boat cruise, romance sparked once more when Ruan chose Hermi for a one-on-one date. Their conversation about family – and the fact that they are both part of a set of twins – created a natural bond. Things briefly got tense when Hermi rolled her eyes during a conversation – something Ruan addressed straight away.
Hermi said:
“Ruan immediately told me he doesn’t like it when I roll my eyes and look away instead of telling him what I think. But when I explained it to him properly, he understood where I was coming from.”
After honest communication, the two resolved the misunderstanding – and ended the evening with a kiss. With that, Hermi also received her first kiss of the journey.
Episode eight delivered two romantic milestones – while another participant closed her chapter with dignity.
