The Ultimate Friday Feels and Festival Vibes at Comic Con Africa Day Two!
Comic Con Africa continued its electrifying momentum on Day 2, as fans flooded the Johannesburg Expo Centre for another action-packed day of pop culture, creativity, and fandom. From meeting iconic celebrities to learning from the industry’s creative minds at free workshops, the festival delivered on every front, offering something unforgettable for every attendee.
As the gates opened this morning, it was clear: Comic Con Africa is the place to be this weekend. With Saturday sold out already earlier this month – Comic Con Africa announced today that Sunday tickets are no longer available. Fans still have the option to attend by purchasing a weekend pass for R700 here.
“It looks amazing this year! Comic Con Africa keeps getting bigger and better. Happy 5 years, Comic Con!” said one enthusiastic fan, reflecting the excitement that echoed throughout the day.
Comic Con Levels Up!
Taking the spotlight today, none other than the original Hulk, Lou Ferrigno, graced the Main Stage to share his unique perspective on how the Marvel franchise has evolved over the decades. International cosplay sensation, Harry Field (A.K.A. Har Fie), expressed his love for Comic Con Africa, stating: “I get to go to events all over the world, but Comic Con Africa is special. It levels up every year. It’s such a standout event in my heart.” Fans were also thrilled to meet Joe Manganiello, the actor behind the iconic super-villain ‘Deathstroke’ from Justice League.
Artist Alley: A Creative Hub
A fan-favourite, Artist Alley showcased a rich blend of South African and international artistic talent. With everything from comic art to custom jewellery and even tattoos, this creative space provided an interactive experience for fans and artists alike. Not just a place to shop, but a community hub where local artists can engage with fans, exchange ideas, and even teach techniques that could inspire the next generation of talent. Comic Con Africa is truly cultivating creativity at its core.
Just next door, tabletop gamers clashed in epic offline battles, while those eager to learn flocked to the free workshops at the Pop Culture Content Zone. Internationally renowned comic artist Guile Sharp sat down with Les Allen, offering aspiring creators valuable insights into his creative process and advice for breaking into the industry.
Gaming Reaches New Heights
The Telkom Gaming Arena continued to deliver high-octane action, with Day 2 of the Telkom E-Sports Championships heating up as teams competed for a share of the impressive R300,000 prize pool. The Telkom setup offered unrivalled views with dynamic stages and top-tier commentators, leaving onlookers on the edge of their seats, as they witnessed some of South Africa’s best gaming talent in action.
The fun didn’t stop there. The interactive AXE experience brought the senses alive with engaging walk-throughs, signature mocktails, and a live DJ. Meanwhile, the Doritos Crunch Zone was buzzing with spectators enjoying thrilling tournaments and lining up to dive into the VR experience.
Festival Vibes: Fun Under the Sun
Outside, the festival energy was in full swing as attendees enjoyed the open-air Con experience under the warm September sun. With an array of food trucks offering delectable bites and 5FM providing the beats, the vibe was nothing short of a party! Excitement continued to build for the much-anticipated Cosplay Parade and meet-up with DJ KD Queen later this afternoon, where cosplayers from all over will gather to celebrate their creativity and connect with fellow talents.
A sold-out success! With both Saturday and Sunday completely sold out, fans can grab their last chance to join the fun with the weekend pass, available here.
