Chris Steyn, also known as Plakkies, invites the ‘Farm to the Town’

Chris Steyn, better known as Plakkies, won the hearts of South African music lovers when he was announced the winner of the third season of Die Kontrak. This twenty-year-old music sensation made an immediate impact with his debut single, EP, and music video titled Helemal, which topped Apple Music’s charts within hours of release. Now Chris is back with a brand new dance song.

Plaas Dorp Toe, written by Chris with the help of Georic Lomas and Marco van Deventer from the music group ONS, has just been released.

“It playfully talks about hard working farmers who deserve a bit of rest too, so I’m inviting them to town for a fun time,” explains Chris.

According to Chris, the song places him in a new style, and he is excited to see how people will respond to it.

“It’s a very enjoyable, upbeat song and I think people will resonate with the good vibe,” he says.

“It’s really a fun song for everyone, not just the farmers on their farms, but also for city folks who feel like having a good night with friends,” adds Chris. “People should play it at a braai or a get-together, emphasizing a good time.”

The music video for Plaas Dorp Toe was filmed in an icy Brits by Conrad Theron and his team at Atlas Media.

“We filmed at the Model Pak farm and all their farmers graciously took part in the music video. It was really cool to meet them all and share stories.”

Furthermore, Chris mentions that this song, which aims to give farmers a chance to relax, is special because he feels the farmers deserve a drink. “Farmers work very hard to get the food we eat into the stores and we should be grateful to them,” says Chris.

Although Chris is still at the beginning of his music career, he is already one of the busiest artists in the industry, but he takes each day and opportunity step by step and never for granted.

He is especially excited to perform again at Afrikaans is Groot in November and hopes his songs will put listeners in a good mood, encouraging them to have fun and dance to all his music.

Plaas Dorp Toe is now available on all digital streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, and YouTube Music here. The music video for Plaas Dorp Toe can now be watched on YouTube here.
