The MasterChef South Africa contestants are vying – and air frying – for a spot in the Top 10

All gloves are off in the MasterChef South Africa kitchen again this week, after only six home cooks – the losing team from this season’s first team challenge – showed off their ability to transform month-end leftovers into gourmet next-overs in the previous challenge.

In this week’s episode, filled with all kinds of surprises, all eleven remaining contestants must cook up a storm to reach the gruelling competition’s milestone Top 10. This time, their task is to embrace the air fryer kitchen revolution by using a state-of-the-art Defy air fryer to create a bistro-worthy potato dish.

As it’s an elimination challenge, one of the home cook’s MasterChef South Africa journeys will come to an end, but the heat will also be turned up for the winner. Whoever’s dish impresses the judges the most might land a shiny elimination pin, which they can use to stay in the competition in an upcoming round. The catch? The winner must first prove their mettle by cooking off against one of South Africa’s best-selling cookbook authors and celebrity chefs.

The man to beat is Herman Lensing, whose scrumptious air fryer recipes have inspired thousands of South Africans to elevate their home cooking with this must-have modern kitchen appliance. Ensuring a fair outcome, judges Justine Drake, Chef Zola Nene, and Chef Katlego will taste Herman and the challenge winner’s creations, not knowing who prepared which dish.

Who will take on Herman, and more importantly, which home cook will leave the MasterChef South Africa kitchen this week?

While waiting for the outcome, you can add the same Defy air fryer that’s creating all the buzz in the MasterChef kitchen. The show’s headline sponsor, Pick n Pay, is giving away two of these air fryers on Facebook and Instagram.

The MasterChef South Africa kitchen is equipped with products from: @home, Beko (appliances), Durbanville Hills Winery, Edison Stone (Wüsthoff knives), Setamono Hibachi (grills), Chef Gear (aprons and chef jackets), My Butcher’s Block, and Mervyn Gers (bespoke crockery). Among the other sponsors are LED Lighting SA and YOCO.
