Magnificent Masks are lining up for The Masked Singer South Africa Season 2
On Saturday, 6 April at 18:30, The Masked Singer South Africa, the local version of the world’s biggest, craziest guessing game, returns to S3 (formerly known as SABC3). This time, the popular show will be even more spectacular, with dazzling new masks hiding 16 celebrities from different backgrounds who are all well known in households across the country.
Some confirmed masks, appearing on advertising material, television promos and revealed in the media, have already captured the imagination. These include shining stars Diamond and Gold, suave Giraffe, patient perfectionist Tortoise and fast-moving Cheetah.
Meanwhile, a cute fluffy purple character dubbed Monster is also out and about, as is the mysterious yet confident Owl.
However, Owl is not the only Masked Singer waiting in the wings to possibly fly to the top, winning the show’s coveted Golden Mask trophy. Viewers will be stunned by our beautiful national treasure, Blue Crane, whose demeanour matches the elegance of a fairy-tale princess.
Besides Blue Crane, The Masked Singer South Africa Season 2 also features another animal imprinted on South African coins years. Wildebeest debuted on the old 2c coin before upgrading to R5 status.
Lientjie Kruger, the Brand Manager of the country’s No 1. choice for sore mouth and throat, says:
“The Masked Singer South Africa Season 2 masks are exquisite, and we can’t wait to see which A-list celebrities are hiding in these elaborate costumes. Andolex® is proud to sponsor this fun-filled and unique singing contest.”
And, who knows, perhaps these costumes are packed with clues about the mover and shaker inside.
So, be in front of your television and tuned into S3 on Saturday at 18:30 to start unravelling the identity of the Masked Singers. Each week, one celebrity will be unmasked based on the vote of the superfan audience and the show’s esteemed panel of detectives – J’Something, Somizi Mhlongo, Sithelo Shozi and Skhumba Hlophe.
The first season winner, Lollipop, turned out to be singer-songwriter Holley Rey, while runner-up Rhino was unmasked as Kurt Darren. The other household names hiding in masks were Mmusi Maimane, Victor Matfield, Doctor Khumalo, Bongani Bingwa, Devi Sankaree Govender, Jason Goliath, David Kau, Zozibini Tunzi, Maps Maponyana, Abdul Khoza, Zikhona Sodlaka, Shekhinah, Makhadzi and The Lazy Makoti.
While the 16 new masks are gearing up for their debut on The Masked Singer South Africa, last season’s masks have hit the road for a swan song at malls across the country. Capetonians can catch them at Primedia Land at the Blue Route Mall between 3 and 7 April.
Mpho Popps reprises his role as The Masked Singer South Africa’s charming host, and on detective duty, you’ll find four distinguished super-sleuths J’Something from Micasa, Somizi Mhlongo, Skhumba Hlophe and Sithelo Shozi.
During the show, millions of The Masked Singer South Africa fans nationwide will be entertained by the supercool “Men in Black“, who assist the Masks in acting out mysterious snippets of their celebrity lives. And, in line with the magnitude of such a singing contest, the show will again be brought to homes across Mzansi in association with Andolex®, South Africa’s No. 1 brand for sore mouths and throats.
The premiere episode of The Masked Singer South Africa will be screened on Saturday, 6 April 2024 at 18:30 on S3 (formerly known as SABC 3) with rebroadcasts on SABC 1 on Thursdays at 21:00, as well as on S3 on Fridays at 22:00.
