Cycle for a cause this International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month!
The month of September is considered a month of hope for better treatment outcomes, for a brighter and healthier future for young cancer patients. Members of the public are urged to be the change for those going through the childhood cancer journey and for those who have been newly diagnosed. There are many ways people can get involved this September, to make a difference in the lives of children and teenagers who are on the cancer journey.
Don’t miss out on the chance to #GiveSomeHope this September by peddling for a cause!
The CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA Cyclethon proudly hosted by MyBidfood and powered by Planet Fitness will be taking place on Saturday the 9th of September at the vibrant Melrose Arch. It is the perfect way for you to show your support to children and teenagers who are navigating through the long and hard journey to overcome their cancer with their families. For five hours, we will be sweating, dancing, singing and, of course, cycling side by side with 139 others per hour.
However, if you think it will just be you and 139 other excited cyclists, you are mistaken. You are travelling a journey with around 1500 children and teenagers who are diagnosed annually to help them receive augmentative care in Paediatric Oncology Units across the country. Through our CHOC programmes, you can help patients and their families have a home away from home as well as, transport, psychological and nutritional support to name a few.
Hedley Lewis, CHOC CEO, comments,
“This is your chance to create awareness show your support and add your voice. The hardest part will be an hour of cycling, and although it may take a lot of strength and courage, so does the journey of childhood cancer.”
Mike Vermaak, MD of Melrose Arch, says,
“Family is at the heart of Melrose Arch and we’re pleased to once again be able to host the Cyclethon in aid of a great cause. I am looking forward to cycling with my team and I encourage members of the public to come and join us for a fun day out.”
