Taking Taxis to Task
A faceless war is raging against competition and regulation in the taxi industry as associations and rogue operators seem intent on running trains, buses, e-hailing, staff and school transport off the road. Threats, intimidation, and violence have escalated. Now, the City of Cape Town is ratcheting up the tension by introducing a new and unique bylaw which will hit the operators where it hurts – in their pockets. But can the city take back the routes and enforce the law as it impounds taxis on an industrial scale?

Miracle Man
In life, he gained a reputation as a man of miracles – the heart and soul of his congregation, and a firm believer in resurrection. But more than 435 days since his passing, the well-known pastor is yet to be buried or, in fact, resurrected. While his body remains at a funeral home, it’s business as usual at his church – complete with counselling sessions with the deceased pastor, for a fee. Carte Blanche investigates.

Co-parenting with Strangers
It’s the very latest in digital matchmaking and child-rearing. Those who are single or not cut out for the old-fashioned father, mother and two and a half children template, might still want to have a baby and experience the rich joys of parenting. Could digital matching apps offer the solution? These are unconventional parenting setups – without romance or the complication of living together. Carte Blanche meets parents who swiped right on a stranger who they believe can help them create the ideal environment for raising a child.

Where Are They Now? The Twins
A story that united a country on the edge: Conjoined at the head and sharing a critical vein, twins Mpho and Mphonyana Mathibela were born in Johannesburg in the late 1980s. Specialists gave them a fifty-fifty chance of surviving the complicated surgery needed to separate them. But the 40-person medical team at the then-Baragwanath Hospital made history. The operation was long, intricate, and ground-breaking and had never been attempted in South Africa before. Decades later, we catch up with the Mathibela family and the medical team that gave a family and South Africa hope.
