The Table Bay reaffirms its commitment to helping children on the street.
Sun International’s Table Bay hotel has known from the outset that it has a role to play in helping to build and maintain a sustainable community by committing resources, support and skills to projects that ultimately lead to a better quality of life, especially amongst children. For almost 15 years, The Table Bay has enthusiastically supported StreetSmart SA, an organisation dedicated to helping South Africa’s most vulnerable children.
“We reaffirm our commitment to StreetSmart, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. As one of StreetSmart’s longest standing partners, we are proud to have been part of the tremendous contribution the organisation has made towards uplifting the lives of thousands of children living on Cape Town’s streets. We simply love StreetSmart’s work. The Table Bay will continue to support StreetSmart by inviting our guests to add a donation to their bill,” says Joanne Selby, General Manager at The Table Bay.
In December 2019, The Table Bay heeded StreetSmart’s call for stationary donations for Netreg Aftercare which supports children with learning difficulties. The Table Bay donated much needed stationary including pencils, paper and crayons to the value of R58 000 to the project.
StreetSmart was founded in Cape Town under the patronage of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu. Since its inception, StreetSmart SA has raised R11.6-million over 15 years in aid of 31 organisations caring for street children and children at risk of living on the streets.
Donations are obtained through partnerships with restaurants, accommodation establishments and wine tasting venues in the Western Cape, Garden Route and Gauteng.
Starting from humble beginnings in June 2005 with 10 Cape Town restaurants raising R1 644, StreetSmart has grown to 100 partner establishments and has disbursed over R1 million per year for the past six years to beneficiary organisations. Expanding steadily from year to year, StreetSmart is currently represented in 12 towns and cities in the Western Cape, Garden Route and Gauteng.
Communities where StreetSmart partner establishments are situated benefit directly from this initiative as all donations received stay in the area and are utilised for local upliftment programmes.
